Congratulations Don “Moses,” you are most deserving of a chapter in this book. You are a pioneer for our people and I still hope one day we can meet up at the table.

What is with you commenters? Congratulations to Don, be happy for his success, be envious privately if you must but if you wanted more opportunities and you were friendlier with each other instead of hating on each other all of you would get more opportunities. Sure, be for yourself first but stop this petty immature stuff.

Congratulations Don! I’ve said on more than one occasion that you have nothing to prove to anyone, nor yourself. Your reputation as a legend in the “sport” precedes you.
When it comes to the true pioneers of CE, I put Don Moses Lerman, Cookie, Godfather, and Badlands above all others, and to a lesser, but very respectable, degree–Krazy Kev, Coon Dog O’Karma, Mike Devito, Ed Krachie, and Oleg Zhornitzkiy. Surely, others will vehemently disagree with me, but that’s my opinion.)
When Dale Boone, Crazy Legs, and Sonya came on the scene in 2002 and 2003, respectively, I used you four as measuring sticks of CE talent to help me ascertain how good those latter eaters were.
Don, you don’t have to competitively eat at another contest for me to maintain that impression. It’s solidified.

Moses Lerman doesn’t get the credit he deserves. Without the man, competitive eating would not be where it is today. He is to competitive eating what The Beatles are to Rock and Roll.

Don, I am very proud of, and for you. Great job. Anything that promotes the sport is good. Since I have been involved (about 10 years now, I have found the eaters to be the most gracious bunch of men and women you could ask for. I’m sure that they feel as I do. Congratulations.

Don, how can you claim to be the first eater to travel out of state to do a contest? According to the EatFeats database, I would say Mike DeVito may have been the first, as last time I checked, New Jersey was not part of New York. In 1998, George Boyajian and Cary DeGrosa both came from out of state to compete at the Nathan’s finals. I don’t see your name anywhere before July 2001 at the Nathan’s finals.
