Maybe I don’t understand…
What will the poll consist of? Top 20, coolest haircut, worst performance…???

Top 25 competitive eaters.

Two things:
1) If it’s an IFOCE poll, why is Scott Bickel listed?
2) Perhaps the launch of a separate women’s Nathan’s finals will give way to separate women’s rankings. I think it should, as the hunt for female qualifiers revealed that women are simply not as adept at competitive eating as men; Sonya, Stephanie, and Juliet are very infrequent exceptions. (And no one can Juliet a dog like the Lovely one. ):)
With that in mind, perhaps it may be fitting to put women in a separate poll. Ya think? (I’m not copping a ‘tude here, I’m just asking.)

Rhonda, Bickel did participate in an IFOCE event.

Let me say this too. (Sonya aside), A Juliet or a Stephanie Torres comes around about once every several years, and neither of them are as good as either of the top eight or so guys.
However, men that can eat 30+ dogs seem to pop, on average, almost annually, and two or more guys that can down 20 come on the scene every year as of late.

@Rhonda there are a few people on this list who have only competed in their one nathan’s qualifier and thats all, pretty much same situation as scott bickel. Though it is a shame he will get his drones from Cleveland to come on here, vote him number one when in fact he deserves nothing.

Also, it was hardly an exhaustive search.

IMO there shouldn’t be a separate women’s ranking YET. With only 10 women there can only be a top-10 ranking lol which is ez enuf to figure out just by lookn at the only contests 7 of them have done – Nathans 🙂 Tho with only ranking top 25 that pretty much eliminates most of us women with exception of S, J & ST. Should be interesting to see what this poll looks like tho !!

There aren’t many women participating in CE as a general fact. Most of the local contests I’ve done in southern California have featured all-male lineups.

“No one can Juliet a dog like the Lovely one”?
Looks like Grace Lee got the worst of three sides. (1) Same last name as “World Spiller and Women’s Best Cheater” Juliet. (2) Atlanta like World Loser Dale Boone. And I mean LOSER in capital letters. And cheater, of course, since he loses to almost everyone but still maintains he’s the number 1. Boone makes me laugh. Pete beat him around 10 times now? (I lost count.) And never once did Boone beat him. Gentleman Joe beat Boone many more times too than the other way around. Oh… but I am losing track… this was about Grace Lee. So, number (3) Grace doesn’t have much grace.

Joe L.: I may have something screwed up here, but I thought you had to have a contract with the IFOCE to be considered in the rankings. Have there not been many who have eaten at qualifiers only and were never ranked? Maybe I’m wrong. Just asking.
A-12:41: There are none so blind as those who will NOT see. One Robin doesn’t make a Spring and one good year with two new women who can eat 20+ is quite an anomaly. Go back any number of years: 3, 5, 7, 10, and compare the number/percentage of women who were able to eat even a dozen HDBs at qualifiers, with the number of men who were able to eat 20+.
LM: That’s true. I was being a bit teleological, contemplating that that action now would help foster more interest in a separate women’s division. Having said that, I’m also a realist. I believe the Nathan’s separation of genders will be the lone exception. It’s just not cost-effective, and it’s too much work, for MLE to separate genders as a practice.

@Nathan in Cali, how can you even justify that 3 way tie for #50, all those eaters are terrible for their own reasons and you left Barlow off your top 50 list. At least Barlow actually ate in a Nathan’s qualifier, is a clean eater, and is well liked on the circuit, unlike the three jabronis you listed.

” you had to have a contract with the IFOCE to be considered in the rankings”
That is not correct Rhonda. They will just not let you eat at any more events if you go outside MLE but the majority of top 50 do not have a contract at all.
Nathan I just totally missed Super Paul and I think I should be about 38 not 47. But I also think I should be given prizes just for showing up also. The smiles of the crowd are my reward in the end.

I agree with a lot of your top 50 Nathan in Cali, and that took more effort than I’m willing to spend. You did an excellent job! Here are my most notable differences, however:
1. Big Sexy is WAY, WAY to low! I’d have him around # 20, 23 at worst.
2. Stephanie Torres should be higher than Juliet. Two more contests, at most, will put an exclamation point on that statement. Mark my words.
3. I’d have both Larell and Maria Sulkin a few slots higher also.
4. … and BB around 39-41.
Again, excellent job!

Some of the new people must think i never competed at the table and all im good for is negative commentary about other eaters on my website. Nathan whoever you are , you need to be around the circuit before you pass judgement on not only myself but other eaters as well. Whatever its worth, i finished ahead of Bauer in Ribs two years ago in MS. I wasnt that far from Beard in corned beef on St pattys day. I finished ahead of Barlow and Myers on several occasions and the second half of the year i intend on doing a lot better because ive been concentrating on more training and less blogging. Hopefully ill be in LA for dumplings and Buffalo for wings depending on registration

I’m up for debate if you are..
* Brian Beard, I know you have a bias for and that’s cool. He’s a very nice guy, but since the last rankings have came out, he has an 11th place finish in Tamales, 7th place at Pastrami, 6th place finish in wings and only 13 HDB’s in Hawthorne that for some reason isn’t in his stats… So with those showings (especially such a low HDB number) I can’t justify him in the 20-23 when he hasn’t beat in of those competitors in head to head or in HDB’s since the last rankings came out, maybe 31 or 32 at best, it’s nothing person to Brian, just going by the numbers.
http://twitter.com/#!/eatingcontest/status/80056761503064065
*Stephanie Torres – I could live with her being ahead of J. Lee, atcually I would love to see it. But the facts remain J. Lee did beat her at Nathan’s (cheating or not) and if Steph competes again before the next rankings are out and shows a strong performance then you may very well be right. However if the rankings came out today I think J. Lee gets the slight edge.
*I gess I could see Larell ahead of Livingston, but not in front of Taylor or Biller… As for Maria Sulkin, she can be #1 as far as I’m concerned for being an absolute stone cold fox!
if you’re not up for debate then we’ll have to agree to disagree. 🙂

I agree with a lot of your rankings but I also think big sexy should be ranked better. The problem is who do you knock down? Competition is getting a lot better and rankings will certainly be a tough decision for MLE in the future. As far as the tie for 50th, I have no complaints being associated with bello, bickle or grace lee. All of those guys have been nothing but awesome to me since I have met them and to be totally honest all three are better eaters than I am. So i f I were to get knocked out of the rankings for any of those three I would be more than ok with it. Although I can’t say I care to much for being called a jabraoni but whatever

With all due respect, current rankings aren’t a lifetime achievement ranking or “intent to do better”, it’s what’s happening now. I’m sorry if I insulted you.. Fact is there are a few tiers in CE, and each tier has a cluster fuck of names you can interchange. No war here, just sayin.
Joey – clear cut #1
Pat – clear cut #2
#3-#5 – Sonya, X, Bob – these three are constantly playing merry go round in rankings
#6-#10 – Monson, Hunt, Stonie, Erik, Tim B, Gordon, Morgan, J.Lee, Osthoff, Toress (all high 20’s low 30 HDB numbers) as you can see there are more names in there that are worthy of top ten however there are only so many slots to fill.
#11-#20 – You have at least 15 names in the low to mid twenty HDB range here all deserving of a top 20 ranking, however same rule applies as above (more names then slots)
#21 – #30 – You have at least 15 names in the high upper teens in HDB range here all deserving of a top 30 ranking, however same rule applies as above.
#31 – #50 – The rest of the field, you have 30-35 names worthy of certain spots however yet again, same rule applies as the above tier.
Domino effect on each teir, each person is deserving of a certain rankings but as Wrecking Ball mentioned, “The problem is who do you knock down? Competition is getting a lot better and rankings will certainly be a tough decision for MLE in the future. “

Nathan, you’re doing the right thing putting Juliet in front of Stephanie, right now, based on OFFICIAL results, which are in the books. I was being facetious, because Stephanie ate in 10 minutes what Juliet ate in nearly 11 minutes (It seemed that way to me.)
One bit of logic of yours I disagree with, respectfully … 🙂
Yes, rankings are mostly based on currency, but you cannot completely throw out an eater’s body of work. There has to be a past performance base to which current performance is factored in. Yes, as time goes by, older performances drop in strength, but they never totally disappear.
I think that’s the point BB is trying to make, and I agree.

As far as debating the subject here is my two cents for whatever they are worth. Beard needs to be ranked ahead of jeremy park at least, I got nothing but love for jeremy and his wife and family but beard has done things that have proven he should be ranked ahead of park (who is still young in his eating career). Let’s not forget beard made it to coney last year so regaurdless of his number this year beard deserves a much better ranking.
The only other subject worth debating is where you say sulkin could be number one because she is a stone cold fox. In my opinion Torres takes the cake in the stone cold fox divison and if we were to ranked based on that I believe she should be number one! Other than that kudos for sharing your opinion and I think you are pretty spot on with most everything else.

Rhonda,
I suppose you’re right, if a new eater comes out and his numbers are slighlty better or even in comparison to a vet, the vet should get the edge, that only seems fair. However we’ve seen it before, Stonie barely nudges out Morgan and Gordon and only registers two contests and he’s awarded a top ten badge over a few names who are also desserving of top ten status and have been on the scene longer… I think Stonie has proven himself since those first two contests though to worthy of top ten, even top 6…
WB,
you’re a married man, you shouldn’t be checking girls out!

Sorry to hear that, WreckingBall. I was there in Esc when you proposed before the qualifier. Thought it was a cool footnote to the event.

I honestly have never really cared about where I’m ranked. In a majority of my contests I have done fairly well and have placed in the money. I don’t really get to do too many contests due to the fact that I have a full time job where I am required to work on weekends. I am still having fun and making money while being under the radar, its all G Double O D, good. I’m more like a fan that gets to compEAT, oh wait..Sorry, a Table ender.

Nathan i agree with you on every point except for the last line in your comment . By showering some of these women (maria sulkin) with words of praise only inflates their big ego even more. Dont bother
