I don’t know if it’s something in the water or something taught in the school districts but Northern California seems to be some sorta breeding ground for really good natural competitive eaters.
Eric Dahl is a beast, his first bite got caught in his throat, which set him back a good 15-20 seconds at the beginning, but rebounded nicely for the win. Btw he’s a really humble guy who loves to compete.
Erik Franks was the most surprising to me and seemed to really fly under the radar. He ate 8 corn dogs in the 4 minute qualifier the day before and did 18 in 8 minutes a day after. I was able to go back and watch my video once and sadly it was only set on Roy, Eric Dahl, Kevin and myself, the contest was really close between the 4 of us up until around the 4-5 minute mark, Kevin was actually leading the field by a corn dog up until the 4.5 minute mark of the contest with Eric Dahl, Roy and Myself all pretty even. Every once in awhile Erik Frank’s flip counter would appear on my screen, the last time it appeared was around the 5 minute mark and he was trailing the 4 of us by about 2 or 3 corn dogs, then again briefly at the very end and it showed 18… They confirmed all our numbers by counting sticks at the end, so he must be one of those types who are just really consistent and steady from start to finish because he really picked up some ground in the last 3 minutes of the contest.
Roy Bustillo claimed this was his first contest. This kid didn’t really have a technique he just ate! With practice and training I’m almost scared at how good he could be.
Kevin was in a zone. I think he was trying to impress his girlfriend and her parents. This is my first lose to him and he defiantly earned it.
I could have eaten 16.5. My counter said she counted 16 full corn dogs and I did get a half one in at the end. But my stick count didn’t indicate that. So I could have lost a stick since I didn’t look on the floor (Eric Dahl said he actually caught one before it rolled onto the floor during the contest) or under my plate. Either way 15.5 or 16.5 doesn’t matter, I got beat, respectively.
Steve Henry, it was nice to formally meet you, even though this was our second meeting (Tempe was a blur and such a crazy day). Best of luck to you and all your future eating endeavors.
