I’m friends with the owner of Easy Street bar and was there to witness the contest. It was pretty cool that we had 2 professional eaters come from out of town to compete. There was another professional from Dubuque who came to watch but didn’t compete because of a contract he has. According to some people in the crowd, the professional from Dubuque is pretty good and probably would have won if he competed. The sandwiches were “slider” size sandwiches and the winner finished 20 in the first 5 minutes and then 5 in the last 5 minutes. He had a pretty good lead after 5 minutes. The eaters were allowed to dip the sandwiches in water. It was gross but looks like it made the sandwiches go down easier. At one point in the contest the 8 other eaters all stopped to watch the show that the 2 professionals were putting on. The owner is still trying to figure out how the contest ended up on this website. There is talk that next years contest may be sanctioned by the company that does the hot dog eating contest on ESPN.
