    Sonya’s got the right idea. Why train when you can just campaign to get rid of the competition? Sonya and Hank are very hard workers in that regard.

    Jackie, as much of a fan I am of Sonya, Miki isn’t scared at all. Neither is Sonya. Those two are warriors of the fiercest kind.

    If you think about it regarding Sonya and Miki, it is indeed very unfortunate that they will not face off on July 4th. Yet if you think about what that holiday means, Sonya, besides being absolutely amazing, is a storybook eater in all ways for the 4th. Her records speak for themselves, her character is beyond reproach publicly, she is a fierce fighter. She is an immigrant who became an American citizen and is proud of that. And she manages a restaurant and serves servicemen and women and is proud to do that too. Full time job, model citizen, incredible eater, she is a publicity dream for the 4th. If she and Miki are to face off in the future, that will be terrific. But time will tell what happens. I would predict that if they do, Sonya, as the fiercest of the fierce, will give it her all and not go down easily. Epic would be the word to describe their meeting and facing off against each other.

    Sudo and Thomas already faced off in pepperoni rolls… I think Sudo beat Thomas, but all that stands out is the photo of Sonya’s big clear cups stuffed with food. Who cares, they both lost to Joey.

    WHO IS HANK? Really, sometimes comments here make absolutely no sense. Forget the question, it is not worth asking when people keep making really dumb comments. I will go with Sonya being fabulous and the greatest female eater of all time. Even if she were to be defeated in the future by someone, she would still be the greatest female eater of all time until that someone else can amass her records, her persona, her everything. One little contest, even a Nathans, is not going to unseat TBW.

    10 years ago tonite the Nathan’s finalists were enjoying and IFOCE pre-contest party at the South Street Seaport. It was the night when The Fridge flirted with Canadian eater Chris Eyre’s wife which led to his arrest and missing the contest. It was the eve before Ed Jarvis ate 30.5 HDB for 2nd place and began the year of Cookie. It was the eve before Sonya Thomas ate 25 HDB. Most of the eaters went to the Carnegie Deli and ate the #13 sandwich after the weigh in ceremony. Those were the days.

    That interview does look like it was written before Miki announced her exit from Nathan’s. They have my sympathies because I know exactly what that’s like. Here’s the interview we were just about to post on Monday morning when we came across that Las Vegas Sun piece breaking the news of Miki’s departure from the contest.
