It looks like a couple of crackheads didn’t vote Kobayashi #1. Were they the same crackheads who voted Lefevre #6?

I put Koby at the top of my list, but I have to admit that I paused for a second before I did it. After all, he only competed in four events last year (albeit major ones) while Joey competed in 24 events. Some people might have given Joey a leg up based on that. And, had Joey finished first in meatballs and date nut bread, I think he’d have gotten even more first place votes.

Thanks to Hall for conducting a very good poll. I visited his site and it looks like he had a lot of respondents. The results also look fairly accurate to me, basically in agreement with how I would rank them myself.
I expect that Dale Boone, Ron Koch, and Juliet Lee, will prove very soon that they should be higher in the rankings. I also believe that Seaver, while an outstanding talent, is ranked a notch or two too high. As a matter of fact, I expect that Juliet will move ahead of him in the coming months.

I enjoyed counting up all the votes and posting the results. I was shocked when I added all the points up and there was a three way tie for sixth place. The more people there are voting the less I think that will happen. Even so, I thought it was very interesting how that turned out.
If it were up to me Takeru would have had all the #1 votes. No offense Joey. You know I think you are the man. The way I voted was by wins/losses and head to head match ups. Since Takeru has never lost and Joey has never beaten him yet, the only conclusion is Takeru #1, Joey #2. Both need to watch out for Pat too!
Even though Ron has not competed in ages, I think it is great he made the top 20. I believe all the talk about him recently definitely contributed to him doing so. Of course if you look at all the accomplishments he has done in the past he has the potential to jump right back in to where he left off.
As far as Juliet Lee, it appears she is the most under-ranked eater right now in the IFOCE poll. I am sure that is because she just hasn’t competed that much. The numbers she has put up look pretty good. I am looking forward to meeting her in a contest as I am with every other eater I have not met yet.
I am already looking forward to the next poll. But between now and then a lot of eating needs to happen. ;o)

i was really hoping the list would also include Non-IFOCE people, but I guess that would go against your allegiance to admit there are some people who would’ve definately made the top 20.

That’s one of the things I DID like about speedeat.com. G-Joe did try, at one time, to rank order the eaters, regardless of affiliation. Even if I disagreed with that, I appreciated and miss the effort. After all, other excellent eaters DO exist outside the IFOCE. (I’ll hear it now, I’m certain.)

The main reason I made the poll only for IFOCE is because it is hard to compair other eaters with IFOCE eaters since they never really eat the same exact foods, eat by the same rules, or go head to head. Though I am sure there are other good eaters out there I just don’t see how you could make a good comparison without having any of the above mentioned similarities.

You’re right Hall, and no one in their rational mind could expect you to do that. And, like you suggest, it would be very, very difficult to compare people in the two realms. Leave that to the “old kids on the block,” who can only hope to render an intelligent guess.
I always felt, however, that Menchetti was one of the few who could do that semi-accurately, his antagonistic descriptors aside.

I also have to say that if Pat Philbin really put his mind and energy into CE, he could easily be in the top 12. I am supremely confident about that.
