    This is from the article:

    ““Furious” Pete Czerwinski- Only 25 years old, out of Ontario, Canada, #1 Ranked Picnic Style Eater in US, this will be his first Big A Challenge, professional record of 33-1 and the one loss was to Gentleman Joe Menchetti in the NYC Dumpling Eating Contest.”

    I like it when they list individual won-loss records, as this helps us, at least in a small way, to categorize and rank the various eaters based on bonafide statistics

    Perhaps this is an official WLOCE contest since most of those eaters listed are WLOCE members?

    I’m like Fishy.

    Even if is a league-affiliated event, it’s surprising that a $1,000 purse can lure more than one or two top names (outside of MLE). Unless you’re a local, if you don’t win, you’re probably not going to cover travel expenses.

    Perhaps Furious Pete’s expenses were paid for. I strongly suspect that at least one of first three names mentioned won’t show.

    He also lost to Kobi in Toronto at pizza and Goose Gilbert in the Derby Hot Dog Contest in an eat-off. However, I am thinking his record must be his WLOCE record, i.e, his “conference” record, as opposed to his non-conference record for contests he did outside of WLOCE. AFAIK, both WLOCE and APE allow their eaters to do outside contests.

    If the “independents” are considering joining together to make one league, that would be a very smart move. And they could still do challenges etc.

    The prize money for this event has gone up to $2,000 for 1st, $1,000 for second and $500 for 3rd.

    Hasnt Furious Pete lost 3 times, to GJoe in dumplings,Kobayashi in pizza and to Goose in HDB’s? Its funny, in his site he has the hdb’s vs Goose down as a “TIE”. LOOKS LIKE WLOCE IS DOING IT BIG THIS YEAR!

    All of these guys are MLE wannabees. Pete is all show and is scared. Boone is just going to throw up because if his acid reflux from being overweight. Watching joe is like watching a obese guy lick his chops at a Chinese buffet. (We have all seen that guy). I am glad that there are other big contests besides MLE but no one really cares besides the the locals in that town.

    “World League of Competitive Eating”. It is one of the three professional eating leagues, the other two being MLE/IFOCE and APE/AICE:

    Not a wloce contest. Menchetti has said’ it would be understandable for others to call me a pro, however I do not make most of my living from eating, so unlike Kobayashi & Chestnut I do not consider myself to be one. I am, in short contests, what I call world class.’ By this definition Jamminjoe is not a pro either. Most of these guys are not mle wannabees. They either left on their own, acted as though they didn’t care to be thrown out, or chose not to sign mle’s contract. What’s Pete scared of? Menchetti is a boring eater, Boone will eventually die at the table, Brunelli will chuck on the crowd, & longo will continue his dominance in the self-decimated aice. When Menchetti beats Pete this time, Andy’s/Hwy 55 will hire Kobayashi to beat Menchetti in 2012.
