Gal Sone loses to 3 person team
(From R Suzuki) Natsuko “Gal” Sone’s Wednesday morning contest has been uploaded to youtube. Part 1, Part 2. Instead of competing against Nobuyuki Shirota, she faced a 3 person team in a shish kebab contest. The three person team rallied at the end to defeat the Gal 81 skewers to 80, winning them a prize of 100,000 Yen. ($851.57)

As the greatest female eater in the world, I applaud Gal Sone’s competitive spirit to take on multiple challengers in a competitive eating contest, even if she lost. That’s what makes her the best! That’s what makes Japan the best!

Lerman what are you talking about. People can love this country and still state fact or their opinion. You’re the one who sounds like that’s not the truth. You may want to live in a dictatorial society but I sure as heck don’t.
By the way your very extremely judgmental and off base comments sound like they’re coming from someone who has lost all their marbles. My auntie with alzheiners can use that excuse but what’s yours? If thats the case with you Don I do sincerely apologize because that’s a very tough thing for the person and loved ones as well. I’m sorry if thats the case.

I totally agree with Lerman on this one. Besides Kobayashi who is currently the greatest competitive eater in the world the rest of the Japanese eaters would be destroyed by anyone in the top 10. Our top 20-30 could beat most of the others.

This is all old news. Kobayashi is the absolute best in the world. Other than him, overall the US eaters are better hands down. But Gal Sone AND Shirota AND Oguni are certainly formidable eaters and do deserve some credit.
I totally disagree with Don and Bubba too that people can’t have opinions in this country in favor of another country’s athlete(s). It would be absurd, for instance, to say that the US has the best Olympic Bobsled team in the world because they don’t. Don — Kobayashi is the world’s best eater, without a doubt. That’s just simple fact. Don and Bubba — I also believe that in many instances the Japanese make better automobiles. Just look at the number of Japanese cars driven by Americans. May the day never come when people can no longer freely express opinions in this country.
Even if I disagree with Luther about the Gal being the best female eater in the world, he does have a right to his opinion. That’s the problem with blogs like this. In many instances they end up hurting the feelings of decent people.and things get twisted way out of context. It is hoped that visitors to this blog, especially young, impressionable ones don’t get sucked in to the same kind of faulty, misleading, go-nowhere logic.
Also, keep in mind that we have many Japanese visitors (and from Great Britain and other countries) on this site and it would be humanistic if we can be as respectful towards them as they are towards us. Americans can be so brutally cold and calloused sometimes. We can learn a lot from people of other countries. Open-mindedness helps make and keep this country great. Closed mindedness and arrogance tear this country down. We all should try to take a moment and reflect on that. It might do some good.

Rhonda,
I was simply stating an opinion. I don’t think I was asking for a tolerance/political discertation from you. My opinion is that America is the best country in the world! Why else would people load up into inner tubes and boats cross an ocean or sneak across desserts etc to get here. Don Lerman is a senior statesman of the generation that loved this country deeply and for that I respect him.

Bubba both you AND I are entitled to opinions. Tunnel vision is also contagious.

Japan. USA. Hmmm…. Why don’t we just settle it in a contest. How about on the 4th of July? How about in New York? How about an eating contest with hot dogs? Play nice kiddies. Thanks, Rhonda.

Why does it have to be the USA “against” anybody? Why don’t we all eat together as friends and in fun and leave it at that?

Todd have you been on another planet? I think Nathans has been going on since 1916, and it has indeed been international for about a dozen years or so.

I was being sarcastic. Rhonda, my point is the same as yours. Competitive eating is about fun and friends.

I know Todd. And I’m sorry that I was terse in my wording. You are one of the “good guys,” and I always look forward to seeing your name.

Everything leading up to a contest and after the contest is fun and games but the contest itself is warfare. The part that pisses me off is when it is not taken seriously. Thats why eaters get pissed at contests because we all take it seriously and others not so much.
