Geoff Esper did a livestream yesterday in which he answered questions from fans. Starting at 10:45 he discussed his plans for 2026. His MLE contract will expire in February and he does not plan to immediately extend it, but might re-sign in the Spring if he wants to do a Nathan's qualifier.

The guy should just quit .

In any other sport the organization would throw money and perks at their top stars to stay, but I doubt anyone but Joey sees that in MLE. Geoff is still incredible at 50. It’s more a matter of what he wants to do… but they could at least throw in some practice weenies for cryin’ out loud. lol

Pat and Michelle are in the unique position of having won Mustard belts and do not have to qualify for Coney – nor do any other contest if they choose. Geoff, Nick & James still have to qualify every year… more money out of their pockets. MLE could start a 5 timer pass, where those who have been to Coney 5 times do not have to qualify.

Why would he quit? He hasn’t won the belt yet!

Geoff talks about retiring / not doing Coney every single year (for like the last 3 or 4 years, at least). In the end, he always stays with MLE / extends his contract and does a Nathans qualifier. The sad truth is that he’s an addict, like many of the people involved in comp. eating. He even knows and speaks freely that there’s really not much to gain from MLE/youtube, except some extra cash. He has said multiple times that Carmen Cincotti was smart by getting out of CE early. Geoff COULD quit whenever he wants. But he won’t.

MLE takes advantage of the fact that many of their “eaters” are addicts, and makes their contracts one-sided, since they know that there will always be someone willing to eat at their events (again, as there are many people addicted / with mental health issues that will sign on the dotted line)

1:00 pm. What exactly are you saying he’s addicted to? He doesn’t really seem to pursue fame. And he’s said there isn’t a lot of money in it. And I watched a bit and he never really said he’s retiring. Just that he may not renew right away. Maybe you know him? I just don’t understand your statement.

Does anyone remember exactly what happened to the totals in one of the Nathan’s finals that Carmen competed? There was something like a 10 hotdog discrepancy for multiple eaters and the official numbers ended up being quite a bit different. Thanks!

@1:59 The 2018 contest was extremely controversial. The individuals tracking the live (unofficial) counts during the event were ridiculously incompetent and later made excuses that they “didn’t have a good view” from where they stood.

Joey’s unofficial count was off but 10 hotdogs (64 reported vs 74 from his plates), while Carmen’s count was off by 20! (44 reported vs actual count of 64 eaten). Some media sources reported unofficial numbers before corrections were issued, so there are a lot of sources out there that still show incorrect totals.

Additionally, Sonya Thomas was somehow DQ’d or at least had no totals released even though no rule infraction was ever reported and we have never been given a reason for why her counts were not provided.

I had heard there was a Joey-cam video available and multiple viewers counted his 74. I noticed a counter in the back gesturing frantically soon after go time, so I do not doubt there was confusion.
That is so odd about Sonya. She almost would have had to have had some prior agreement if she did not DQ, because it would have made the results incorrect if she had placed.
Weird year! Carmen probably did give it his all and was ready to be rid of the “sport”, but what a crummy thing to have experienced when you pretty much took time off your lifespan practicing for the damn thing!

Geoff is an addict and even his home BINGES show how bad it is. He eats until he is miserable (and would only get WORSE too as time passes) and either has to then immediately go shit or throw up off camera or both. FUN STUFF. NOT. This is only done by a person with an addiction to binging. Certainly not for the money as he even has pointed out multiple times. He appears to wear the same tshirts daily which is also ummm eccentric (being nice). This dude will re-sign period.

Geoff is intelligent enough not to travel around doing it multiple times a week. None of this is healthy, but the touring folks knocking out these things left and right are the ones who will probably pay the price.

8:54 – It is not really eccentric its we have mental issues and eating disorders. LMAO. Note I said “we.” The difference is I am fully aware of it.

Geoff has an ED, like many people involved in CE. The shirt comment is just uninformed. He has multiple Inzer shirts, as he used to be a powerlifter and they sell equipment / apparel. He has multiple Inzer shirts.

the latest example of a moron entering the space is Wayward feasters in England. Dude is thin as a rail (looks like Skeletor), does multiple challenges a week, and LOVES the spotlight / camera. He just threw up on a Cattleman’s livestream the other day attempting one of their larger challenges. Him, JJ, and Max are at the very top of the binge/purge ranks in the UK

I don’t know why anyone here thinks qualifying is an inconvenience for a top eater. It’s a great way to get an actual hot dog contest under your belt each year instead of just competing against yourself in your kitchen all spring and summer. Would it be nice to not have to qualify? Sure, but only in the sense of, “Oh, I don’t actually have to do this.” But even with an automatic finals entry, I’d go compete in a qualifier for the repetition.

Mental illness? What a strange and nasty association with CE. Clearly you know nothing about mental illness. Yes, perhaps one or two eaters have had or have eating disorders. But your comment lends nothing to the discussion about CE. Right on 2:36.

11:35 and 3:16 – Boy some really low IQ people here. The majority if not everyone who does CE or challenge eating has an eating disorder. Binge eating even by itself is an eating disorder.

From AI response. The question “Is an eating disorder a mental illness?”

Yes, eating disorders are classified as mental illnesses (also referred to as mental disorders or behavioral health conditions).
Major health organizations and diagnostic manuals recognize them as such:

The American Psychiatric Association (APA) describes eating disorders as behavioral conditions involving severe disturbances in eating behaviors, accompanied by distressing thoughts and emotions that impact physical, psychological, and social functioning. They are included in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) under the category of Feeding and Eating Disorders.
The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) states that eating disorders are serious illnesses marked by severe disturbances in eating behaviors, often co-occurring with other mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, or substance use disorders.

The World Health Organization (WHO) includes eating disorders, such as anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, in its list of mental disorders, noting they involve abnormal eating patterns and preoccupation with food, weight, and shape.

Common examples include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge-eating disorder, and avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID). These conditions are not lifestyle choices or phases but complex illnesses with biological, psychological, and social factors. They can be life-threatening and often require professional treatment, such as therapy, nutritional counseling, and medical care.
Early intervention improves outcomes, and recovery is possible with appropriate support.

OK, as I said, one or so people have eating disorders. Painting everyone the same shows your ignorance. Did you have fun writing an AI comment?

  24. Anonymous said

    December 14, 2025 @ 7:54 pm

10:06 – speaking of low IQs, it’s so cute you had AI do all the research for you. binge eating is more than simply eating an exuberant amount of food in one sitting. it also involves loss of control which one could argue is not the case in competitive eating. contests are a very conscious and deliberate act of overeating. binge eating is done shamefully alone and in secret, not in front of crowds of people or broadcast to thousands of people on social media and YouTube. i’m not saying competitive eaters don’t struggle with this off camera, but competitive eating isn’t inherently an eating disorder and can be done independent of the shameful and distressing emotions that come with actual mental illness.

If you cannot take the time to write and think out what you want to say just go back to your ignorance. AI is for those who are just plain lazy. AI is more and more not allowed in tests in universities. No more computers, no AI, handwrite in a book. Could you do that? Where does it say that competitive eating is an eating disorder?

@ 236 pm. Of course its moronic, whether or not they have an ED or not. Just like doing heroin or fentanyl is moronic. The fact that addicts are doing heroin in the streets doesn’t make it any less “moronic”.

I know that EDs are considered a mental illness. I myself suffered for years. Most people never fully recover, and I’ll happily admit that I still face challenges around food, calories, and exercise every single day. But I’m in a much better spot now than when I was at my lowest point. So yes, its a disorder. and Yes, its an addiction. But many of these people need to realize they can break the cycle. Most are not ready to give up their addiction, and they’ll never make any improvements until they accept they suffer from a disease (and not just call it a hobby or side hustle).

3:16- you dont know wtf you’re talking about. Your either ignorant, or new to the CE scene.

10:25 – Well put and thanks for sharing your very real experience as the example. Unfortunately, there are are ton here who are in denial. The 64,000 dollar question is will Randy Santel ever retire from challenges or will he continue to be in denial of his issue? Throw in making $$ I’m sure makes it worse. He goes all the way to making excuses why he weighs 400lbs doing challenges because he doesn’t purge.
