    While there’s no doubt that Sonya Thomas is a legend among women and a great female eater, people are indeed sick of hearing about her. People are sick about hearing about the same people over and over in any sport. People are tired of hearing whenever Joey or Pat wins, unless Pat beats Joey, because it’s the same stuff, over and over. If Joey and Sonya retired, and probably Bertoletti and Janus too, everyone would breathe a breath of fresh air and competitive eating would be exciting again. Right now, however, it’s like a song that is constantly replayed. Shut the thing off!

    anonymous 8:29 is correct. Same redundant scenario played out like a broken record. When you watch Gutbusters even though its as old as dirt, it is not only refreshing but it reflects a time when nearly anyone had a shot at a title. Its all about Sonya Joey Pat , Then you talk about how friendly they are. If you were winning titles every time out you would be smiling and shaking everyone hand too

    The issue is that with any up-and-coming sport, there are a few select who have chosen to dedicate tons of work and effort forward to become the best, these are the Joey’s, Sonya’s, and Pat’s. The problem is that as of now Competitive Eating isn’t that big of a sport now, and since money insentive and recognition isn’t nearly at par with other sports, majority of people arn’t willing to do this and view competitive eating as a fun hobby to take “semi-seriously.”

    Fortunatly the future isn’t completely bleak since there are some upcoming, very dedicated, individuals who seem to have this “be the best” mentality which the all the best now had back in the days. Stonie, Morgan are the first two that come to mind, but I would also say Kevin LABeast falls into this catagory, becuase I follow his youtube, and the second he signed Into the MLE he start to put down tons of hot dogs. Hopefully we can see this dedication soon from guys with promise such as Aaron, Dahl, and other Indy eaters.

    For argument sake lets say Larell or Edible were winning titles and making money and Sonya was an average eater winning squat. . Do you think Sonya Thomas would cheer them on? Hell no she would quit the sport and devote her entire time to burger king

    Or sonya would bite down and strive to kick their asses one day in the future. The mentality of “to hard, not worth it” is exactly why guys like chestnut dominate the sport 99% of the time, no one is stepping up. What do you think amuatures in other sports think when looking up to the greats. The best don’t quit.

    Maybe we should just have handicapping in competitive eating, so lesser eaters would have a shot to win too. Who cares about talent? Let’s make it fun and fair.

    It so sickening the level to which MLE will allow its “stars” to cheat, mislead, bend the rules etc., whatever it takes to claim a record or in this case with Sonya a win. Watch the video @ 2:13 you can see a pan full of wings which are only partially eaten, not even half of the wing consumed. From stuffing gloves, loading cups, tossing on the floor, to mout and out lying this joke of an organization (IFOCE) continues to have less and less creditability. They should be ashamed but they are not. It’s a joke.
