The Costa Vida World Burrito Eating Championship has also been added to the calendar and it will take place September 20 in South Portland, Maine. Registration opens August 6 at noon eastern.

The dunking kings, Joey and Bob will certainly be at the Kolache contest. I can see the finish now: Joey, Pat, Bob. Sonya should avoid that one.
The Burrito contest should be a nondunking one where Sonya will have a better chance. She finished a very, very close second to Tim last year, and she will probably want to attend this year. I HIGHLY recommend this one, Sonya, if you’re reading this.
But Sonya STAY AWAY from those damned water-drenched Kolaches, where a good portion of the Kolaches are not eaten, but end up in the water instead. Dunking is, in essence, approved cheating, that several of the guys have mastered.

Sorry Rhonda,, but a Kolache dunked in water does not do much to effect its natural state, I was there last year eating next to Joey and even he will tell you that,, Pat, Bob, Sonja, Hall and Erb were there also, the contest was great, a crowd of about 20,000 and the Kolache Factory took us out for “sodas” after,,,, free game, free food, free shirt and free “sodas”,,, how can you go wrong… I also was at Burritos on Maine and that was pure eating at its best, Tim and Sonya battled til the end, no dunking obviously, Conti and Gravy put on a good show also, crowd of about 150,,,

Rhonda, it seems you have never had a kolache. The bread is so unique it doesn’t break up in the water like sandwhich bread or other bread does. The eaters were commenting after the Kolache contest last year theat the water hardly did them any good except when their mouth got dry. While Sonya had a hard time, she did finish in the money last year.

That’s true. I have never even seen a kolache. Nevertheless, why even dunk them?

The Jalapeno contest is all about placings below first, because that’s a given—-Pat is head and shoulders above anyone else on this planet.

Rhonda, forget about Pat. I would like to hear you make more excuses for Sonya previous and future losses.

Excuses—-there are about five people better than her right now. But they alll SHOULD be. Pound for pound she’d the second best eater in the world, next to Kobayashi.
What’s your excuse?

What does it accomplish to single out any eater and focus on negativity. Do you have to win each and every contest not to be considered a loser? If so no one should participate in any sport.

heres to my first post on these boards…I signed up for the kolache contest, but since its such a big deal, Im not sure I will actually be competing, but I am on standby. I have done a couple practice runs this year on a few foods I wish to compete in. I am looking forward to actually getting my first competition under my belt (no pun intended). although I am a newcomer, I think a lot of people will be surprised when they see my drive.
looking forward to competing, or at least watching, the kolache competition!!!
BTW – I wish there were more competitions in the South Texas area!! anyone else feel the same?

Howdy Chris. Welcome to the silly world of competitive eating 🙂 Don’t be afraid to compete if you think you’re not quite ready. The best experience possible is getting in there and doing it. I think all of us not on the east coast wish there was more contests in our respective areas. Texas still has a lot more than California though (where I am). But I’m happy IFOCE is doing gyoza in a couple weeks. It has been a long time since I could do a contest where I could easily drive to.

why cant the ifoce have a gyoza contest in ny, The original dumpling contest was in ny and it should have stayed in ny. IFOCE should bend their rules and let the members participate in the chef one event so we can exterminate the amateurs that compete in that event

SyKo, im in houston. Im planning on going to the corn dog event at the state fair…i have done a couple practice runs and Im pretty sure I can win it. the kolache one im not sure if I am even going to compete yet, since Im a “standby” and who knows how many standbys there are.
as for the howdys, its nothing new to me. I deal in international business, and people from overseas always like to give me a hard time when they find out im from Texas. one guy even asked if i was friends with George Bush….I was like yeah, we used to ride horses to our oilwells together…

For the record, I wasn’t saying howdy because I knew you were from Texas. . .that’s just how I sometimes greet people, regardless of where they’re from. I’m pretty sure everyone was saying howdy to make fun of me for saying it. But anyway, there is a lot worse stereotypes than people thinking you’re an oil tycoon. Who wouldn’t want to be? When you get excited, you can start firing two guns up in the air while doing a little hodown jig, and instead of people being terrified, they would just think you’re a colorful character. Yep, that would be the life.
