Houston Tamale results posted
IFOCE.com has posted their writeup of Saturday’s Tamale contest at the Berryhill grill in Houston won by Chip Simpson. I am curious if any notables besides Chip, Pat, Rich, Tim & Levi competed and what were the circumstances of Rich’s post-contest reversal.

El toro was also there. He is a pretty new eater with some intereting hair. As far as the reversals go Rich swallowed all his tamales after time had expired and he only had a slight reversal after the announcements of the placings. Pat had his reversal before he could swallow all his tamales after the time ran out. That might have been the reason for Rich’s being allowed and Pat’s not. I am not sure of the official rule about how long after the contest one must wait before he or she can have a reversal and still keep their placings. This is all how I remember it but I might have missed something. If I have anything wrong with my version I am sorry. Hope this can clear a little bit up.

Chip’s account of the situation is accurate. Ryan spoke with Hungry Charles about Rich’s reversal and they deemed that since Rich cleared his mouth of the food he took in during regulation time, even if it was temporarily, that it wasn’t a DQ. As for the tamales being 3.5 ounces, I didn’t see an officail weight taken and I was told by the owner that they were just a little bit over 3. That’s still about half again as much as what the tamales last year weighed. Anyway you look at though, that was a great contest with fantastic hosts and alot of amazing talent.
