IFOCE “Stand By Me” pie contest registrations opens today
From IFOCE.com:
On July 28, the nation’s top Major League Eaters will converge on the small hamlet of Brownsville, Oregon to recreate one of the most iconic moments in both film and competitive eating history.
STAND BY ME was filmed in Brownsville and was released in 1986. For the first time, the IFOCE will sanction a hands-free pie eating contest as a tribute to the movie that helped bring competitive eating into the spotlight.
Registration for this contest will open at 12:00pm on Friday, June 15.
I think this is the first handsless contest IFOCE has sanctioned. The only contests listed in July on the IFOCE calendar are in Oregon.

Wasn’t there some hands-free oyster competitions? I’m thinking of Crazy Legs’ video. Maybe those weren’t IFOCE competitions.
This pie competition sounds freaking awesome.

I PRAY someone gets good video of this contest. This would be great for YouTube! (Actually, every IFOCE contest would be great for YouTube…they should create their own YouTube channel and post vids to it regularly.)

I signed up Dave, so I’ll try to get some video if I get into the contest. I wonder how far they’ll go to duplicate the look of the movie. It would be sweet if it looked identical. Though I have a feeling there won’t be a barf-o-rama, but of course that is what everyone will certainly be hoping for 🙂

you know, I just realized yesterday that you can create a page on youtube like myspace. With all the same features. Dave, I think you should go to every IFOCE event and film it for youtube.

This is really nice, and it really is heartwarming (from http://www.competitiveeating.net/newsarchive.php?action=detail&sn=42):
“Bike Fund Established”
“On Wednesday of this week some jerk stole Steakbellie’s kid’s bike. The MLE believes this is an injustice. The fact that it happened on the last day of school makes it really immoral. Many of us cut a lot of lawns when we were kids so we could get a bike. Imagine doing all that just to have your ride stolen by some punk?
Let’s give this kid the summer he deserves. If you’d like to donate to the MLE Steakbellie’s Kid’s Bike Fund please email easyrider@ifoce.com and we’ll arrange a way for you to get the funds to Steak. The MLE will match donations until we get to a point where Steak’s kid can get a new bike.
Dig in gurgitators – five bucks, 20 bucks, whatever you can afford.”

No hands oyster eating? Sounds like you wish he was practicing for something else Liz.
