Durn it, I got excited for a second because I thought it said July 17th and I actually happen to be in New York around then. Too bad I don’t have enough dough to go to New York 2x in such a short period of time ’cause it looks like a fun one.

Nah, you want to sit this one out BB. Your value to the Meatsweats is realized by the sage advice you offer from the bench.

This will be a very competitive and fun event. What will make it even more fun (I don’t mean to sound cold.) is my belief that the eaters won’t have to worry about defeating the likes of a Koby, Joey, Pat, Sonya, Bob, X, Chip, or Rich because they likely will skip the event due to excess travel cost and/or not enough total prize money (for them).
However, it would be a perfect event for Juliet to make her mark in with her first win. That’s just me, however, but I believe Juliet has the potential to be a top 10 eater, if she isn’t there, capability-wise already.

I have to disagree with you on this one Rhonda, competitive eaters will travel redardless of costs. A title is a title. I remember back last year for Spring break I was looking for tickets for Florida to go to the Key Lime Pie contest, it was about $400-$450. And guess what, several eaters showed up. Eater X and Pat B. showed up. There wasn’t much prize money considering the cost of flights. Expensive as a trip is eaters will travel for a title. Even the Strawberry Rhubarb pie contest, the plane ticket to go there would have been about $450, Pat won and made about $1000 or less considering hotel and airfare. Airfares don’t mean anything when eater has made thousands, they are still up considering the prize money that obtained in the past, they fly with their winnings.

Dear Sicilian. Your point is well taken and I speak in generalities, not absolutes, as there are exceptions to every rule, just as each person is an exception in life, when you get right down to it.
Also, remember that back then, during the Key Lime Pie contest, X and Pat B were not the stars they are now. I doubt that first place for the S-S-Cake contest will be more than $750. I just can’t imagine many, if any, current top eight eaters showing uo for that unless the traveling fits well into their plans.

I believe Juliet Lee’s run for a title will occur sooner or later, maybe sooner than we think, like a Nathans qualifier, but not all eaters can tolerate those HDB’s, but at the same time she did extremely well in the meatballs championship, it will certainly be interesting to see how many HDB’s she can put away. I’m predicting 25-29, but who knows if she’s training and is set out to make a rampage and go over thirty.

Judging from Sonya’s statements and performance in HDBs, I think that HDBs are a tough food for a female to eat in 12 minutes. I think Juliet will prove to be better in many foods than in hot dogs. So even if she is not able to eat more than 22 or so, so what? I’m predicting about 25, by the way. In a couple of years she will likely be in the low to mid 30s, however.

Mmmm, strawberry shortcake.
Tim is local and good with sweets; I wouldn’t be surprised if he took the title.

If Tim attends I think he’ll win hands down. I honestly hope he skips it though, along with Joey, Pat, Sonya, Bob, Chip, and Rich, in order to let others have a crack at a title.

Badlands, strawberries are good for you…..just tell them to give you yours without the whipped cream, and the cake, you know, Strawberry No Cakes!!
