"Munchin" Mike Longo reports that Joel "The Cannon" Podelsky won today's National Royal Caribbean Bakery Bun & Cheese Eating Championship in Middlebury, Connecticut. Longo was the runner-up. update A contest video is available.

    i think the jealously is out of control on this site of anyone who does well thats not in the IFOCE….maybe jealous that theyre not allowed in these contests

    Joel the canon happens to be a good guy . A class act guy unlike some twofaced ifoce members that smile at you when they see you but limit the socializing to emails or sometimes dont respond to your emails at all

    I suggest everyone stop posting on this site unless you post under the name your mother gave you. . OJ Rifkin appears to get a big laugh out of it and it has been going on for nearly 5yrs. Note that he does protect certain individuals in the sport for i know firsthand about real nasty comments that were made about other eaters which never made the comment page. If OJ is going to protect certain names then he should do right and protect others that get beaten up on this site. Some of the names that he protects are Fat Will, JIll Stoler, Big Ben, and many many more. OJ if you permit anonymous posters to slander certain individuals then what goes for one should go for all. Either open the pandora box for everyone or close it permanently. When you first started this blog in 2005 comments were unrestricted and unapproved meaning it was open season on everyone. Maybe you should go back to that policy for it would allow everyone to get everything off their chest no matter how vicious it may be . At least it would follow PLAYING FAIR

    I’m not making fun of the winner, I know I’d try to win this too if I had showed up. It’s even more ridiculous that you are trying to sell this as some kind of delicacy. Seriously? ??? Bun and cheese looks UP to grilled cheese.

    If things keep going the way they are, next year they will have bun and air or maybe just a bag of white flour and a glass of water.

    How about ‘bring your own Bun and Cheese’ contest.

    How about just emailing a video of you eating a bun with a piece of cheese on it. That way the sponsor wont have to pay for food or even a table cloth.

    Can we just mime eating the buns and cheese? What are the rules?

    I did Bun & Cheese in 2008 & was cheered on by(can you believe it?) Sweet Jill.There is a lot of truth in that people can say whatever they want about some people(like me) but not others.But some people need protecting more than others.I am just waiting for the proper venue where I will set myself on fire & perish(coming soon).It will be the biggest thing ever to happen in competitive eating.And Joel is a good guy-congradulations Cannon.
