Kobayashi drops to #3 in IFOCE rankings

(From Shazam) The IFOCE rankings have been updated, but the only apparent change is swapping Pat Bertoletti and Takeru Kobayashi in the #2 and #3 slots.

It’s about time if Pat wins Krystals he should be #1.

That makes no sense. Pat beat him once.

Pat will never beat Joey in Krystals except when your dreaming.

The rankings are based on who is liked best and thats it.

He definitely deserves it. If they drop Koby in the rankings everytime someone beats him, what are they going to do about the fact that Pat has beaten Joey THREE TIMES IN A ROW?

    Dynamic ranking system!?!?!?!?!? Finally.

Yeah Pat beat him once and it took a hurt jaw to make that happen. Koby looked like he was in slow motion eating chicken wings and as much as I hate to say this even the girl Thomas would probably have beaten him if she had showed up in Vegas thats how off his game he was.

question:since Pat has been competing and winning and Kobi has not been competing (since Nathan’s) should’nt Pat move up anyway, for the pure fact that Kobi hasnt been competing?

Thats probably true but it just seems sort of weird and unfair because Koby has never lost in his life until July since around 2002 or 2003 but not until his jaw caused him truble this year.

I wonder if Pat beat Joey and Kobayashi in turkey and ham and if that effected the rankings?

Yeah, it was Koby’s hurt jaw that cost him. Kind of like the time I raced an NCAA nationals-level sprinter in the 100m. If I hadn’t pulled my hamstring, I would’ve won. You can’t prove me wrong, anymore than I can prove your Koby statement wrong, but, if we’re being honest……….we both know the better man won. Excuses are worthless, it the checkmark in the “W” or “L” column that matter.

BTW I noticed Joey warming up his jaw before the wings and Koby wasn’t stretching or massaging his. One would think, if it was really sore, he would have done so. Hmmmm?

Luther you think anyone takes pride in beating a wounded bird? . That about equates the situation with Kobe. If you cant beat the real Kobe whats the point in beating him. Im sure Sonya was thinking the same thing in the back of her mind. At least she has compassion . Other sad losers would claim victory over him if he passed out or dropped dead at the table just to say they beat him.

I feel very sorry for Koby. The man has been the presence of greatness and total professionalism since he first stepped up to the table at the Nathan’s Finals on “Kobey” Island in 2001. If Koby says his jaw is injured, he needs to be believed and given the benefit of the doubt. He has earned that more than anyone else in the game.

As far as the change in rankings, it is really strange that the Fed changed only his ranking (flip-flopping hjis with Pat’s) and no one elses. That means one of two things: either Koby did indeed lose the subsequent ham and turkey events in Vegas, or Koby refused to participate in them after he finished third in wings.

Either way, it looks as if the IFOCE has a “h—on” for him, and have sent their message of disenchantment by way of the rankings change. Also, being that they took the trouble to “fiddle” with the rankings prior to Krystals, what sense does it make to leave Joey # 1? Well, that tells me that either Joey won at least one of the ham and turkey events in Vegas, OR, they just love seeing Joey at # 1 for whatever reason.

If he really has an ailing jaw, the wing event has surely aggravated it, and he would be wise to have his head examined if he does Krystals this year (or if he went through with the ham or turkey event in Vegas), because it will only lead to further embarrassment, which Koby doesn’t deserve.

I’d claim victory if he reversed like on the 4th. Of course, it was never replayed or talked anout after the live broadcast. Get over it. Koby was the best once and may be so again, but he’s not the best at this exact moment.

Anonymous (from 8:19 PM), you’re so very right in what you say using the wounded bird metaphor to describe Koby’s condition. When I watched his wing eating technique he was ultra slow, as if something was amiss, to where Koby seemed totally out of sync.

You can bet your last dollar, the farm, or what have you that Koby can much, much more than the just-over-3-lbs total he finished with if he were anywhere close to 100 %..

When Kobe was destroying the competition with 50 plus hot dogs it was the same as a lower ranked eater eating 12 or 13 in another country while his closest competition was only able to eat 6 or 7 hot dogs . Thats how kobe looked at his american opponents that could barely do 30 while he coasted with 50 plus almost every year. Not only is he a shade of his former self but he looks very sickly almost like he has cancer . Kobe and Juliet are used to eating boneless foods. This time they were presented with another obstacle . Trying to beat their opponents and worrying about not swallowing the bones. They not only had one thing to worry about but two things at the same time. This without question threw off both their games. I suggest both or either will have to do alot of practice with wings unless they want to get their asses handed to them in future competition. Maybe Sonya can sit down with Juliet and give her a few lessons on wing technique. She needs it and so does Kobe.

I don’t know, Anon. It’s tough to use the “they never had a chicken wing” excuse. Not only because I find that hard to believe (and if it’s true, they should have practiced), but because this was a WEIGHTED wing contest. All they had to do was pull meat off the bone, swallow and move on to the next wing. They didn’t have to work around the bone and clean the wing like other wing contests require, so technique wasn’t as big of an issue here.

Are we sure the ham and turkey events already took place? If so, how was the IFOCE able to keep those results under wraps, but the chicken wings results were available on the day of the contest?

the ham and turkey were in a studio and not outside….think same thing for eats of strength…

I don’t think Sonya will be giving any trade secrets to anyone, nor does she need to. Koby and Juliet are very intelligent and will figure it out soon enough, if they haven’t already.

When are the ham and turkey events going to air? It would make sense to air the turkey event around Thanksgiving and maybe ham around Christmas.
