Hotel Chatter Reports that Kobayashi will compete against seven unnamed "acclaimed competitive eaters" at the Eventi Hotel in Manhattan on July 4. He will also unveil his new line of hot dogs called "Kobi Dogs".

    Here we go again. Another high overpriced ploy to divert attention from Nathans . $100 a ticket ? I bet those stupid yuppie college kids will jump at the opportunity to watch like Criff Dog. Invites to Goldstein, Torres, Brad, FP, Gilbert , Philbin. Similar to a Pro eater vs kids at the neat eating contest. He knows he can kick their asses.

    If anyone who was “invited” has any interest in seeing Kobayashi disappear which will ultimately create more opportunities for them they should politely decline to be one of the unnamed accliamed competitive eaters. Tell Kobay “No” and it will pay off in the future!

    As much as I respect Koby, the person, and his top-of-the-world class CE ability, this turns me off also. It makes him appear desperate and cheap, at least in my eyes. Perhaps the everyday observer looks at things differently. I’m not certain.

    It would be most interesting to design and see the results of a survey distributed to both live audiences and TV viewers at the Nathan’s finals, as well as to live observers at the Eventi Hotel event.

    I’ll say roughly what I said about truTV’s Guinness show: Acclaimed eaters, DON’T give away your talents. You should be getting paid for this. There is money involved in this event. Don’t give them your time and effort and acclaim for free. They should be flying you to New York, putting you up in a hotel, and paying you at least $500 bucks for your effort. If they’re not, it’s a bad deal.. It’s good for Kobi, it may be good for the hot dogs, but it’s nothing more than a photo op for you. Get money, and keep the price for all of us HIGH.

    Independent eaters getting together for their own common good, yeah that’s going to happen. Kobi will exploit you guys just like he did for Crifs. As the announcer at Crifs pointed out, enough with these guys let’s get to the real eater — Kobayashi! In fact he even screwed over Crifs itself and signed a contract with Hofmann’s less than a month after his July 4th fiasco. I mean, let’s say the world stops revolving, cats are humping dogs, the Cubs are in the World Series, and every other freakish event occurs including an independent eater actually beating Kobi at this event. They would just fix the numbers so Kobi wins. Kobi’s just there to sell his hot dogs for gosh sakes. It has nothing to do with being a contest. You “acclaimed” independent eaters are about as ‘”acclaimed” the Washington Generals are to Harlem Globtrotters. So go be foolish backdrops for Kobi. It doesn’t matter. MLE eaters are the only real game in town anymore. Kobi’s just a salesman now.

    Can’t almost everything being said about Kobi, be said about Nathan’s & mle? and probably has been said. The current field of indy eaters is just as good or better than mle’s roster. Everyone that works for someone is exploited. The goal isn’t to cover costs, its to make money off of you. This is not a bad thing, it is the way of the world. It just depends on how much exploitation you are willing to be a part of.

    MLE is no longer the #1 game in town, face it! They fucked over Kobi, he now has an axe to grind! Talents like Koby, Pat B and McDonald prove that MLE no longer has ALL the top eaters in the world. Good thing Sudo decided she had something to prove by wanting to be the top female competitive eater in the world by joining MLE.

    Imagine if Joey starts to get beat more often, he’ll no longer be the golden child, and MLE will give him the same treatment they did to Kobi and Pat. Which is “If you aren’t #1 then we couldn’t care less… oh yeah and if you go do something else while under our Nazi contract we’ll sue you!”…

    Indy Eater — Did you just get back from a mushroom eating contest?. Koby already beat McDonald, and McDonald got his ass kicked by every top MLE eater. Pat might give Kobi a run, but Kobi won’t let him win. This isn’t a contest folks, it’s a commercial for Kobi Dogs and you’re joining Kobi’s league if you eat against him. Kobi’s nothing more now than a talented Dale Boone. Every top independent eater has gone to MLE the past two years. Matt Stonie and now, Miki Sudo. I’d rather trade an upcoming Stonie and Sudo, for a declining Pat Bertoletti. Sonya Thomas v. Miki Sudo at Nathan’s is the biggest show, and it’s MLE. Joey Chestnut, is still the undisputed number one eater for the men, and everyone knows Kobayashi and Bertoletti both left MLE because they realized they could never beat Chestnut for a number one ranking. Hey dumbass, the reason Kobi advertises he’s a good hot dog eater is because he once was for the top league, MLE, and top hot dog, Nathan’s.

    Hear hear for Hearding Kittens. Kobyashi was once the greatest and will always be a highly recognized name worldwide. Koby wanted to be number 1 at Nathans again. He really thought he could beat Joey. I think he could have done that or had a real chance to do it but he blew it completely by getting all confused about what democracy means and his contract. Now he is just a salesman like HK said. Rhonda makes a good point of course but the people who might attend the event are just people looking for something fun to do on the 4th and who have 100 bucks to spend. None of them would be hard core competitive eating fans and followers. So Koby will get his paycheck and some publicity as usual, the so called contest will be flawed, the other eaters likely will be screwed over but if they know going in what they are going to get, it is their choice. They can always find however many eaters they need for a contest like that and call them acclaimed. It’s PR, remember.

    Whether or not Kobi dogs will go anywhere is speculation but no one, I mean no one could possibly come anywhere close to Nathans. They are huge worldwide. What, you think there will be Kobi dog franchises? These businesses were never built quickly and by one person. He is a shill. That’s it. Sad but true. And if other eaters want to have their photo op with Koby and get some free Kobi dogs and have something to do on the 4th they will get their wish too and be able to say that they ate against Koby. They may never have made it to Nathans but if they slip that into a conversation, likely no one is going to question them. Just party talk good for a few seconds of attention.

    Zaccanelli resigned after the lawsuit was settled in April. Terms of the settlement were not disclosed.

    A shill is someone who promotes something as if he is sincere when actually he is being paid to endorse a product. I guess it isn’t unlike MLE and all of the eating organizations because it is all really about promoting the sponsors product. But It is not a compliment.
