I agree with Hall. If I were a participant, especially one of the top eaters like he is, I’d be very reluctant to publicize my schedule early (though even someone as shallow as me can figure out where he’s going).
When the Krystal people want it to be known they’ll put it on their site, or have the IFOCE publicize it.
It makes perfect sense for Pat to be selected to kick off the qualifiers in Chatty, given his ascension up the ranks as the #2 finisher in the finals last year. Krystal fans can now begin to identify with him.
I look for Pat to do about 65 to 70, but I think he has the capability to do a couple more.
Nobody, and I mean nobody, will do over 81-82 Krystals this year, and no more than three people will do over 70. Anyone who can do 45-50 or more Krystals, nondunking, is a “helluvan” eater, and I expect the top seven eaters all to do that: Joey, Pat, Koby, Tim, Bob, Sonya, and Hall.
However, it will be tougher for Sonya to break 50, because Krystal-eating is not one of her strong points (and she’s not in to practicing). But if she doesn’t get 50 she will come very, very close to it. Hall is right there in Krystal Country, and he’ll probably practice numerous times.

earlier predictions of 25% reductions in eating totals seem to be more accurate from training reports I’ve heard throughout the country – look for new competitors in some qualifiers seriously challenging the top 15…..more info to come.
There are only 7 qualifiers, anyone looking for a “soft qualifier” can forget it

I like it when there is more disclosure regarding participants – it provides more anticipation and build up. Considering that these events are setup as marketing tools for sponsors, early exposure of the contestants could never be considered a bad thing. As soon as the qualifiers were announced Krystal http://twitter.com/ksquareoff was asking anyone to tweet where they will be going and publicizing it – so I know they agree.
As far as numbers go, with the angus burgers counting for considerably more than they weigh, I don’t think the numbers will go down as much as some might think – I don’t want to make predictions for everyone else but I am pretty confident my number will be better than it was last year even if I can’t practice much.

Erik you’re an honest, rule-abiding eater, who, I believe, is as adept on dry land as at sea with your food, and I don’t expect a reduction in your totals as much as some of the others.
My next question is this. Though there is to be no dunking, will the eaters be able to use cups (with openings large enough to drown Krystals) or will the Krystal Corp provide bottled water?
I think they should equalize the playing field by providing each eater with equal quantities of bottled water and disallow using foreign substances or containers.
That could be still another sponsor —- the company that provides the bottled water.

I’m on the Atlanta waiting list, so is Damien Boykin from Marietta ( right next to Atlanta ) – I wonder, did anyone from our area actually get into Atlanta? I did get into Birmingham, Al the day before – anyone want to trade their Atlanta spot for Birmingham?
And I hate to make that deal, Birmingham is a fun qualifier on the UAB campus at Legion Field, with thousands of fans – lots of yompsters. Someone very “big” in MLE will be there.
Hopefully, as word gets out about Humble Bob’s appearance, some folks registered for Atlanta will decide not to spend the money to get there to be humbled.

I signed up for Chattanooga and Knoxville right when the registration opened up. I had a feeling that it might be hard to get into more than one, so I noted in the “comments” that Chattanooga was my preference if I was unable to get into two. I think they are just trying to give everybody a chance to get into one before they start offering seconds. I am on the waiting list for Knoxville, and I cannot imagine that many people registered before me, if any, due to the fact that I did it immediately when it opened up.
I miss the days of the two minute qualifiers. Those were always fun.

Since they’re paying 12 places, there should be 12 spots. Assuming Koby has to qualify (big mistake if true), that leaves six of seven qualifiers, so 12 spots minus 7 qualifier winners minus Joey = 4 slots left, all of which I presume will be Wild Cards.
Here’s who you’ll have at the Krystal Finals, in addition to Joey:
Qualifier Winners: Koby, Pat, X, Bob, Hall, Sonya, Gravy
Willd Cards: Erik Denmark,Badlands, Juliet, Crazy Legs
Assumptions:
1) Sonya will compete. (The Krystal people seem to appreciate Sonya, and I think she will like the no-dunking rule change.)
2) Rich LeFevre will not compete.
3) Dr. Big Time will not compete.

There probably will only be three wild cards, like last year. They filled the 12th spot with some randomly picked person from the crowd, who ate 10 Krystals and received $500.00.

No need for burger king crowns (where Sonya works) when Royalty comes to KSO VI. Professional Wrestling has “The King” Jerry Lawler. Another wrestler, the cousin of Jerry, has a title I think is way cool. He is shy about it but “The Hangman” is also referred to as “His Lordship” Lord Bruce. He is a real and true Lord. He was dubbed Lord Bruce of Sealand.
Hail to Lord Bruce “The Hangman”. Krystal’s has Royalty coming to Jacksonville.

The IFOCE powers that be might as well update the rankings only once more this year —- post-Krystals.
Though some eaters will benefit more than others by the dunking to nondunking switch, the rank order of the eaters will be little changed from what it is now.
Even if Koby or Pat were to win Krystals, Joey will still retain his top ranking, because of the weight of Nathan’s, assuming Joey doesn’t finish lower than third, which is virtually unimaginable.

totals prediction revision – expect lower totals to be higher – watch for many more 20+ totals, but less 50+. Hall confirmed for Jville, Booker in Alabama, Humble in Atlanta, no word on Koby yet. Carnivore Challenge first winners showing up, maybe in Birmingham, maybe in Atlanta. They will be a force to be reckoned with, if they registered in time. Looks like no Atlanta area eaters made it into Atlanta – wow.

I suppose it could be that the IFOCE wants to have different people at events. I mean I signed up for three events. Sure it is would have been nice to get at least my home town but I am glad to be in one at least. I got wait listed for Bham last year and then two days before they sent me an email saying I was in. I could not go though. It does suck but at least by narrowing the number of qualifiers they are giving more people a chance to compete.

There is a definite strategy to this year’s contest. Look for “stunning” totals from those who have figured it out. People will be shaking their heads at numbers some lower-ranked, and non-ranked eaters achieve. The lack of liquids has forced eaters to stop just shoving, and really start thinking.
The Northern eaters who haven’t been able to practice with Krystals will be at a disadvantage. Using that sorry White Castle grease glob is like practicing for hot dogs with sausage links. However, you can bet the Top Ten will still come through – this year, it will be like the smaller football teams that use “trick” plays, and are able to compete well into the 4th quarter, when the sheer talent and will of the superior team wins out!
