Latke contest preview / AICE news
AICE has updated their rankings (only the top 23 have been changed, #24 and below are exactly the same as the October rankings) and eaters to watch with profiles of Michael “The Mongoose” Dodd and Angela Michaud. Ms. Michaud was the only female to crack the top 3 of an IFOCE or AICE event in 2005 (at last month’s hot dog contest in Ontario) other than Sonya Thomas and Carlene LeFevre and she will compete in tommorow’s latke contest in Long Island. There is also a profile of Joel “The Cannon” Podelsky from the New Jersey Jewish News.
Joe Menchetti will not appear at the latke contest (he will be reselling tickets for the UConn-UNH game) or the zucchini contest next month and casts doubt on whether he will compete in any AICE event in the future.

I feel I need to respond. I don’t believe I knowingly did #1. Unknowingly, I probably did.
#2 I never did. My “contract” ended. I competed in IFOCE contests w/out a contract for months after my contract ended.
#3 I am absolutely “guilty” of. However, I do not believe I did so, until they didn’t allow me to compete & hit me in the wallet in other ways. During the duration of my “contract” it would be difficult to find a better or more loyal member. Maybe a handful.
I was only asked to change one thing written on speedeat & did so, promptly.
I have not asked to be reinstated by the ifoce. I did ask to be a spectator @ the Turkey eating contest & I have signed up to enter ifoce contests sporadically over the last 2.5 yrs. In early Feb. when my qualifying commitments, etc. are through, I would consider any & all offers from aice, ifoce, wwe, or actually forming my own org. as was originally intended. Since I’m partly responsible for landing a good chunk of the events aice has had, & nearly all the good ones, it really shouldn’t be difficult to have my own org. That said, I prefer to EAT!
I would like to point out that I/speedeat have done a lot to change aice & ifoce from the outside. Particularly the ifoce. $$$ has grown & expanded to include 10th place eaters. Updates, re: contests, are speedy instead of … whenever. The site is occasionally funny, just to be funny now. They have a commisioner/judge who is around for more than just Coney. Most of my original concerns, have been addressed. To say it’s not because of me/speedeat & some others, would be disingenuous & unrealistic. Because of this, I will likely continue to be the Curt Flood of competitive eating. If that’s the case, I can, have & will happily live w/that.

Personally, Joe, I would like to see you back in the IFOCE. It would be far more satisfying competing against the best eaters and your competitive desire would be fully met.
