Sonya set the current Oyster record of 46 dozen in 10 minutes in 2005–not 2003 as stated in the article. In April of 2003 Sonya had not yet eaten her first hot dog (or any other food, for that matter) in competition. The previous year was a record-setting performance by her also, but she “only” ate 36 dozen. (I admit I checked the records page of her Web site to be sure I was right.)

Why don’t these authors get their facts straight before they print this stuff for all to see. That’s their profession for pity’s sake. Not doing so is like a professional baseball player dropping a pop fly that’s hit directly to him. It’s just basic.

That earlier comment regarding 2005 versus 2003was from me. My name got dropped off by accident.

Did anyone notice that Kristi Yamaguchi fits the stereotype of a small Asian woman eater and the announcement was made April fools day? There is also no record of what regional contest she won.

As great as Pat is, I don’t believe it is possible for him to eat more than 46 dozen oysters. I do expect him to do around 40-42 dozen, however. (And that would be an absolutely incredible total.) If Sonya is there she will break her own record by eating 47-48 dozen.

This contest is about hand speed and finger dexterity (taking Pat and Sonya’s stomach capacity as a given), and the quickness with which an eater can get each oyster from shell to mouth using a little cocktail fork. Sonya is the best in the world when it comes to these three attributes. This is NOT a contest to see how fast an eater can barbarically cram food into his or her mouth as fast as he or she can.

Oyster-eating is Sonya’s kingdom. When God made Sonya Thomas he must have done so with oyster speed-eating in mind.

They also said eating more than 24 hot dogs was impossible. The minute you settle for the past is the minute the past gets overtaken by the present and future. I don’t know why sonya is the oyster queen, that was around 3 years ago and everyone has improved vastly. Why sell eaters short by shallowly thinking that 46 or 48 is the max for this food in competition?

Yeh Pat will eat at least 90 dozen. Hell kill the record. Joey would do over 200 dozen.
