Prize of Man v Food Nation appearance reneged on
It has been one year since the final new episodes (Jackson, MS and Charlotte, NC) of Man v Food: Nation debuted on April 11, 2012. In August 2011, John Lomascolo was informed that the video he submitted for a contest held on the program’s facebook page received the most votes and he would claim the prize of an appearance on an episode featuring Albany, NY area restaurants. (The eating challenge site was to have been Wagon Train BBQ in Rotterdam, NY). The program never recorded in eastern upstate New York (episode list) and the series terminated before John Lomascolo received his prize. (I have made a twitter request to see if an alternate award was given out.)
Contest runner-up Lauren Takao did get to make an appearance in an episode recorded in Hawaii.
update April 12 I have been informed that John Lomascolo received a small compensation, but a future appearance on a Travel Channel program is unknown at this time.
Ed Krachie’s niece covers & competes in steerburger contest
CapitalNews9 has a video of Erin Connolly covering and eating french fries in yesterday’s steerburger contest in Albany. Ms. Connolly claims to be the niece of 1996 Nathan’s champion Ed Krachie. Nicklaus Schultz won the contest by eating 7 steerburgers in 20 minutes.
Buffalo Jim wins Saratoga non-qualifier
Capital News 9 reports that “Buffalo” Jim Reeves won the Nathan’s hot dog eating contest held at the Saratoga Race Course today. While this year’s upstate New York contest is not a qualifier for the July 4 finals, it still awarded a year’s worth of hot dogs. The duration remained 12 minutes long despite truncation of other Nathan’s contests this year to 10 minutes. Video from the contest is available which shows that Crazy Legs Conti also participated.
update blip.tv also has a video Totals are not mentioned on either of the two videos.
update #2 The contest page on IFOCE.com has been updated to report that Buffalo Jim ate 23.5 HDB and Crazy Legs Conti consumed one less. The contest was listed as 10 minutes.
update #3 The Saratogian has a contest report.

In other IFOCE contest news, registration for the Los Angeles Nisei Week gyoza eating contest will open in about an hour. Sonya Thomas says she will not enter due to high travel costs (from comment)

Conti interviewed by truefan after Saratoga
Liz has posted a long interview with Crazy Legs Conti following his victory in the Saratoga qualifier to truefan:
I genuinely feel bad that Mike Landrich didn’t make it. I’ve never met him, I don’t know what he put up in Vegas, but if it’s any consolation to him, I didn’t get an email confirmation either. There is no grand IFOCE conspiracy afloat, I saw an event I wanted to go to so I picked up the phone and found out the info and showed up. In high school it took six calls before I got a girl to agree, but I made it to the prom. I arrived at Saratoga to learn that instead of the usual seventy people, only seven preregistered for the contest.
Crazy Legs Conti wins Saratoga qualifier
Capital News 9 has an article and video of this afternoon’s Nathan’s qualifier at Saratoga, NY. Crazy Legs Conti won the contest with 21.5 HDB. Jeff Bouyea was second with 10 HDB. Did any reader of this website besides Mike Landrich attempt to register for this contest and not get accepted?
update The Saratogian also has an article about the contest. Tim “Eater X” Janus attended and competed in the neat eating competition, but did not enter the qualifier.
