    Cody would not automatically get in each year. He was subjected to a random draw each year. The first year he had a 1 and 10 chance of getting picked. The years that followed sometimes had very few people enter. Other years had more.
    Last year, he didn’t get picked in the random draw but they decided to let all contestants thag signed up compete, as they thought it would be more entertaining

    Well, Scott Eats complained to the staff & organizer to change the contest from the standard 2 minutes because he stated that he isn’t as good at short contests, he’s more of a big eater, to 5 minutes & trying pushing it to even 15 minutes long. I’m not for sure how much he ate. They announced he ate 21 & just ended the contest as soon as he finished the hotdogs in front of him.

    You have no clue because that didn’t happen.
    If the contest would’ve been fair, I would’ve congratulated him. But changing the rules to beat locals is not honest or respectful.
    And obviously he was worried if he had to do that much, especially after complaining to the staff after he found out I did more than 6 in 2 minutes
    Moberly wasn’t at fault, even the announcer was surprised at the rule and multiple people thought it was bullshit

    So the event has been going 5 or 6 years and they just say “ok… we’ll do that”? I like Scott, but that is weak and totally on them. Most contest forms do have a clause about being able to make whatever decisions they want, but that’s still pretty cheesy. They didn’t have to listen to him.
    Would be interesting hearing Scott’s side of things though.

    That’s what I believe too 11:47. Eats is likely among the top 10 hotdog eaters in the world now after the 45 in the Vegas qualifier. I can see why he’d be a bit irked if the organizers were influenced to do something different last minute, but we won’t know how the original 2 or 3 minutes went unless a video turns up. It was a couple of years ago, but Cody did 14.6 in a qualifier. Again – that was a couple of years ago and he might be a monster now for all I know.

    @2:33. The real locals are glad you lost. Do you think they liked you winning $1,000 year when they had no chance? Moberly offered $200 extra so you would lose. That says something They wanted you beaten and got what they wanted. Format did not matter but they likely changed rules hoping someone new would win.

    Things happen out of our control.
    Just consider it a blessing you had a 5 year streak with such a big prize offered. There’s probably no other streak quite like it for an amateur, unless there’s tons of stipulations attached to assure a local to win.

    @3:47 I think the locals are more upset that they hired the best professional eater from Canada to travel all the way to small town Missouri to steal the $1200 by cheating & likely getting an appearance fee.
    Atleast, I’m friends with multiple people in that area and have links to the contest.
    But I do agree with you that they wanted me beaten
    So they changed the rules, after I personally heard Scott complain about the time limit and tried to change it.

    @4:12 Scott is a great eater. I won’t ever deny that. No one is denying that. The concern is his actions, which were not honest. I always gave the locals an honest chance.
    With that being said, that count is still very close & the set up for a 5 minute contest is dramatically different than a 2 minute contest. I was notified of the rule change at the table, right before the contest started.
    Thus again, cheating is wrong & Scott was most likely worried about potentially losing. Which would cost him $1,200 and the amount of time it took him to travel there

    Cody–if you were any bit of a man, you would have stood up for yourself the moment Scott tried to convince them to change the rules. But it sounds like you just kept quiet and allowed for them to make that last-minute change (again, not that it would have made a difference).

    Why didn’t you, as the 5-time consecutive winner, demand that the rules be kept the same? You can’t have your cake and eat it too. Don’t like what happened? Then become a better eater, or stick to stand-up comedy.

    Most competitive eaters have, at one time or another, lost contests they thought they were going to win because a better eater showed up unexpectedly. Just be glad the contest was local to you and you didn’t have to drive hours and hours back home (or worse, have to sit on a flight that you paid for).

    And for a fact check,I told the staff & Scott that, no this is a 2 minute contest after he complained and tried to change it.
    And unless, this situation has happened to you, then you definitely don’t expect a time limit change at the table… so even though you are offering a solution it’s not realistic.
    Better eater or better cheater? Like I said eating had nothing to due with my concern, the cheating aspect did.
    And I actually did have to drive hours to the contest & am still grateful for the day

    Chiming in here, Cody you should be pissed at the organizers for changing the rules and the time limit last second. This goes to anybody who does contests and so forth. You prep differently depending on rules and time limits of contests. Anybody that says otherwise is completely stupid. Now making suggestions to organizers to your strengths is whatever. Its what the organizers determine what they want to do. Flat out shorter time limits benefits people with smaller capacities as well as faster eaters outta the gate. This helps locals have somewhat of a chance vs say 10 minute contests with eaters who have 10lb capacities. They wont stand a chance.

    That said, any last second changes are very shady and discouraging period. Again you prep differently. It does happen time to time. You never expect bigger payout contests for that kind of BS to happen. If they said this a few days prior, sure thats fine. But again it should not go against any other competitor for suggesting anything. If anything take the suggestion for next year. Same with any rules of water limitations or beverage options, etc.

    All of those issues are 100% valid concerns. No matter if you had a chance of winning or not. But its hard to call out somebody for any kind of cheating like that in my view. If they cheat in the contest its one thing, but again this is on the organizers itself.

    In the Facebook video, at the 4:00 mark, it appeared Scott was starting his 3rd tray while Cody was still finishing up his 1st tray. I just don’t see how it would have made any difference even if the contest was held to only 2 minutes.

    Cody, do you actually think you had a chance of winning against Scott no matter what the rules of the contest were? Would you have beat him in a 30 second contest?

    Cody respectfully, every eater who talks to the organizers gives their opinion for better or worse. I am guilty of it to, as there are a few contests I would of loved to see much longer then what they were. Was it to give me an advantage? Sure maybe. But also in some of those cases I just wanted to eat more good food haha. But almost every eater talks to organizers and try to suggest changes all the time. Its not shady or unheard of. Them doing it the day of the contest or that close to the contest on the organizers part is. I had contests where Molly showed up and knew i didnt stand a chance unless it was maybe a 2 minute contest. but even then. Everybody is looking for an easy payday when it comes to contests. Some look just for foods they like. Others look at other eaters and put them on a bucket list of who they want to beat. Whatever the reason, its hard to call them out as cheating unless you do crap like Boone did and still does.

    Extra shady facts- so he had allotted 3hrs for sleep between driving & the contest he was headed to in Alabama for the next day. The contest ran later than expected, wiping out those allotted 3 hours. Any sane person would have wanted the contest to get over as quick as possible, to get sleep & to make the next contest in time. So where did, the 1st time in 6 year, time limit extension come from?
    So obviously, he was unconfident in the 2 minute contest, thus asserting the time limit be changed.

Anything outside of the contest (where he talked to organizers to get the time limit extended, more drinks, juices, etc whatever) it 100% on organizers and nobody else. Anybody can go up and talk to them to ask them to change anything. It is solely on them to change it. I do not think trying to manipulate the rules prior is cheating. During is a whole other thing. I can agree to disagree for more water or what not but that is a whole other issue and a safety thing in my view.

    The debate seems to be did he do it so he could win, or would he of won no matter the rules? Well in shorter time limits the hot dog gaps arent as big so any gags that happen crush a short timer. Its not unheard of for somebody to get upset due to it. Unlikely maybe but there still is a chance a worse eater beats a better eater in a short time. Won’t ever know in this case until the match up happens again. But you wont be matching the same scenario in the long run. I think from the video he would of beat you in a 2 minute contest. However like i said we wont know because mindsets change, prep changes. a lot of things change when you last second a competition on all sides. You try to go faster in shorter contests, where longer contests you try to keep a steady pace. Its why joey can hit 70+ and almost the rest of the field with maybe a few exceptions are in the 40s. First minute in nathans, joey is not out to any huge lead. Mess up once down a wrong pipe and he loses. Extend it 10 minutes, well now the steady pace wins. But in short, no i do not think its cheating because again, its up to the organizers themselves to change it or not.

    I had similar experiences with the TPC wingbowl in debuque iowa where they changed the rules to the finals where i had 0 chance of winning. And by 0 chance I mean 0 chance. Unless i ate the bones whole themselves the weight was not even and their finals rule change was no refills. I had a scrawny bowl with hardly any meat on bones. I think I took 5th or something with like 2.7 pounds. I was going slow trying to get all cartilage off. Had like 6 wings left in 5 minutes. Where as in the qualifiers i had 3 full refills and was the #1 placed qualifier by a long shot. They didnt tell me till I drove 5 hours to get there a few hours prior. Winner take all event so no 2nd place. Would not of wasted my time. But that is me ranting. Just my opinion anyways.

    I don’t believe Moberly had an agenda against Cody or they would’ve excluded him from the table sometime back. By the way, Hey Cody.
    They did sort of use him for advertising – that is also something you usually agree to in the fine print when you sign up for a contest, but I don’t really think it was out of spite.
    MAYBE they wanted to see you lose, but they are looking at it from the perspective of a promoter, looking to engage their audience.
    All I know is that I feel crazy guilty even asking for cups or extra water without making it clear only if everybody could also get the same.
    Also – I already know I am lower tier suck, so I don’t mind putting my name in the bar. heh heh!
