Are EMT professionals around at practices? Practices that are condoned and encouraged by Major League Eating of all top competitors? These people practice far more often than they compete. Joey Chestnut admitted this on national television with George Shea, MLE Chairman, right there.

Sheas never condone practices or chugging down gallons of water. Eater do that at their own risk

This is true. One competitive eater admitted to me there were times when they got food stuck in their esophogus. The key was not to panic.

The contract for MLE actually outwardly warns against practices. Eaters do what they do because they want to improve, but the league never encourages it.

It appears, at least to me, that MLE covertly encourages eaters to practice. Record-breaking performances are wildly praised, and MLE emcees actually seem let down when records AREN’T broken. How do you—-at least MOST top eaters—-break records? They practice, practice, practice.

I remember Joey admitted he practiced for the year leading up to one or more of the Nathan’s Finals by cumulatively eating over 5000 HDBs. I believe him. (A liar Joey is not, and that’s what I respect most about him.) It used to be posted on the Net, but I can’t find it now. OJ also posted a similar link last year that was since removed.

The MLE contract might—-and I’m sure it does, to cover IFOCE’s collective asses—-“warn” against practicing, but no action was taken against Joey for doing what needed to be done to wrest the title from Kobi.

If and when an MLE eater dies from practicing—-it’s only a matter of time, unfortunately—-MLE will pull out the contract and point to the clause that discourages practicing.

Then they’ll say/tweet/post a few words about what an unfair tragedy that was, and how their collective hearts go out to the dead eater’s loved ones. They’ll take a few weeks off, and then pick right back up where they left off, maybe even with renewed vigor.

Eaters are ultimately responsible for their own safety. I’m not so sure the risk-reward ratio from practicing is worth it.

May each of you have a safe weekend!

A Deadspin commenter (reportedly the friend of an eater’s girlfriend) claimed in 2012 that a top 3 eater was hospitalized after a water training session went wrong.

The old ifoce.com website actually DID say the only method they endorsed was the water training method. This however has since been removed since they revamped the website.

So a top 3 eater in 2012? That had to be Joey, Pat, or BOB??

From the article OJ mentioned above:

“these guys are complete social outcasts that all the sudden become “stars” one day a year and totally act like douchebags for a night. ”

This is 100% true. I’ve met a number of gurgitators, and they are social outcasts.
