In a post titled “I Created the Monster”, Don “Moses” Lerman remembers the first time he met Pat Bertoletti before a Krystal qualifier in Knoxville, TN:
ON ROUTE TO KNOXVILLE I HAD A STOP OVER AT NATIONAL AIRPORT IN WASH. D.C I RAN INTO PAT AND INTRODUCED MYSELF TO HIM , HE WAS VERY TIRED AND WENT TO SLEEP ON THE BENCH INTHE TERMINAL . AS THE CALL ALL ABOARD THE AIRLINE WAS CALLED BERTELETI WAS IN A A DEEP SLEEP , I COULD HAVE LET HIM LIE THERE AND WALK AWAY WITH THE CONTEST , BUT IN THE INTEREST OF FAIR PLAY AND GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP I’LL WAKE HIM UP …. HE WENT ON TO BEAT ME BY A SMALL MARGIN IT WA S THE START OF HIS CAREAR AND THE END OF MINE

First off the spelling is absolutley atrocious in this article.Its like someone spitting while they are talking . And second , Lerman lost by more than a small margin. Try four burgers.

Don, you probably are a really nice man, but this is absolutely obnoxious, please, stop trying to give yourself so much credit. Yeah, it was something back then when you made all sorts of accusations of winning before the contest, but Pat was just starting off and got better every contest he enter. I don’t think it was magically done because of DON MOSES LERMAN. I honestly think that you should do what you have to do and return to competetive eating to take your anger or whatever it is that still bothers you. You are a classic competitve eater, I will give you that, but you still can make a comeback, the same is true for Cookie Jarvis and Badlands, they all can come back and compete. Your GI systems have not shut down.

Don moses lerman this and don moses lerman that and back in day Krachie, Hardy, blah blah i beat them in matzah ball . I will lose the weight like grant went thru richmond . give it a god damn rest ok. What the hell did you create? .nothing but animosity You come on this site asking for sympathy and get well cards . If by some chance you compliment another competitive eater, you still manage to get your digs in claiming that you would have beaten them if the food or circumstances were different . Its about being selfish and nothing more

I did pioneer competitve eating and pave the way for new stars to come on the scene , I am one of the founding fathers of the sport , I wonder if baseball players from today whould knock Lou Gerig or Babe Ruth?

Wow i was just on Lerman’s site and the site is all about Don Lerman. . Hardly anyone comments on his pictures or his commentary for that matter . Lerman also claims hundreds of people flock to his site everyday from all over the world. I find this extremely hard to swallow considering the site is filled with nothing but old pictures of a thinner Lerman competing in hot dog and matzah ball contests from five years ago. I also fail to find the humor in gustaf wychik and the old gal .

I think Olga and Mr. Zychick are great personalities–perhaps the best thing about Moses’ site. I enjoy Don’s humor. Give the man a break!

Hey Hangman,
Don’t believe everything you hear on Fox news (the official propaganda arm of the fourth reich). Al Gore never claimed to invent the internet, only to have taken the initiative to take the closed system military file sharing system and making it open to the public. If he had not done so I’d have to call you on the phone to tell you Al Gore won the Nobel Peace Prize.

I would credit Lerman for creating a monster when it came to Ed Jarvis rather than Pat. He taught the cookie man everything he knows. I like the Cinn kid Ed G Robinson comparison. That was a good one
