MySanAntonio interviews Sonya Thomas

MySanAntonio has a preview of Saturdays’ Krystal Square Off qualifier which contains an interview with Sonya Thomas. update The Krystal Square Off blog also has an interview in which Sonya comments on sitting out last year’s finals:

Look, I’m a fast food manager and my staff and I take great pride and work long, rigorous hours in preparing orders for our customers, who love our food. I have seen Krystal burgers getting disrespected more and more every year to the point that I didn’t want to contribute to that image any more. A Krystal burger went into the water, but what came out was something that looked like it probably could have been eaten with a spoon. It made my heart so heavy to think about being a part of that. I know how I would feel if I saw people drowning the fast food items that I pour my blood, sweat and tears into preparing each and every day. There’s just something wrong with that. The least someone can do is eat our food the way it was intended to be eaten.

Nice answers.I think she’s going to surprise on the upside with her numbers, or points, as they’re called now. I wish the best to both her and Erik.

You are going to devote more than 5 years of your life, spend your hard earned time and money, and try to beat the best in the world at competitive eating, but you won’t practice? That’s just laziness, an excuse, or arrogance. Either way it’s not working and you will continue to lose more ground and more respect in my book Sonya. If you are so adamant that it is a sport then why don’t you treat it like one and put some real effort in and train yourself to be better!!

“I saw people drowning the fast food items that I pour my blood, sweat and tears into preparing each and every day” –
Oh my god I almost cried for those poor burgers. Give me a break, this is the most rediculous comment I have ever seen from Sonya. You felt bad for your Burger King burgers becuase people were dunking Krystal burgers??

You know, you could give some folks a $20.00 bill and they’d bitch about the serial numbers. Some just choose to be miserable, and bitching perpetuates that.

I can’t even envision the name Sonya Thomas and the word, lazy, in the same sentence. I have popped in at her BK a few times over the last two years or so (though she hasn’t a clue who I am), at different times of the day, to include weekends, and to say she is a whirlwind of energy is a major understatement.

If anyone needs to get in shape or burn calories just try following her around for an hour, any hour of the day. It’s nonstop.

As far as practice, though she’s the manager, Sonya pitches in and handles burgers and other orders throughout the day, and she is the fastest of anyone I’ve ever seen with her fingers and hands. I bet her speed of service is faster than any fast food employee this side of the sun!

No wonder she doesn’t like to practice at home. There’s an abundance of that at work!

I also think it was very thoughtful of her not to mention BK in her interview, as BK is somewhat of a Krystal competitor, especially now, since they sell Burger Shots.

Oh, one more thing. I would not be a bit surprised to see Sonya accrue 55 or more points in San Antonio. No, she’s not one of the top four or five in Krystals or even HDBs, but she’s still pretty damned good.

Wait until she does pasta, clams, sushi, or even eggs again.

And for those that aren’t down with that, I’ve got two words for ya … but I won’t state them here.

I disagree with Patrick ‘KCF’ Bertoletti, and think that Sonya is going to excel at this contest. The picnic style rules will have her placing much higher in the KSO Finals this year.

Steak I think Sonya is being written off by all the top seven or eight eaters as a nonentity in Krystals. They’ve all got bigger fish to fry, so to speak.
