Mystery eater finishes “Big Kahuna” burger

Patrick Michels has produced a blog entry and video about the Big Kahuna burger challenge at Pancho & Lefty’s in Hare, Texas. The only finisher of the challenge is by a customer who called himself David Walters and refused to be photographed by the restaurant staff. A picture of the $500 check awarded for finishing the burger is above.

It’s not a big a deal as they make it out to be. 5lb burger with 2 to 3 pound of toppings just like Black rock tavern challenge in NY. Pancho & Leftys gives you a better deal though. Two to three hours to finish and $500? Black rock gives you only 1hour if you complete it .the burger is free but you get shit in return.

Yeah, that does seem like some easy money. I’m not saying I could do it, but I’ve seen people do the same or better at Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub. But I guess if it were THAT easy, there’d already be more than one person to have completed it.

Maybe the reason the person didn’t want to be photographed is because they were a member of the IFOCE. As for the “David Walters” check, maybe that’s the name of their friends (“I’ll eat the burger, you get the check in your name. Then we can cash it and I’ll give you $50.”).

David Walters is a pretty common name, so a Google search doesn’t return many clues, but there was a David Walters on the USA Olympic swim team (he won a gold medal with Michael Phelps in Beijing). Judging by Phelps’ diet, we know those swimmers can eat and since he’s an Olympian, maybe he wanted to keep a low profile.
