Naader Reda reports on his group attempting San Diego-area burger and pizza challenges on the same night. Stephanie Torres set a record of 8 minutes for the previously unfinished 5 pound burger at the Beachside Grill in Oceanside.

Good job by all four of you, 2 challenges in 3 hours is impressive. How many pounds of food would you say each of you had, maybe 8-10lbs?

That’s for sure. She is better than Bertoletti and Bob Shoudt right now, and she is bound to improve.

i think steph can eat faster using picnic rules than others can using more liberal rules. this site is providing these eaters with a great way to get their name out there. good job. i thrive every day to eat like you.

I see according to the “upcoming eating challenges” that you (N Reda) have 2 vegas challenges in your sights. The 12 patty colossus burger and the 120 oz steak at the brand. I would add the 24 inch sub at Johnny McGuires to your plans. I would never attempt the 120 oz steak at my level, i completed the 12 patty burger and have been asked by the restaurant to try to break the time record on other occassions, but honestly i just like to eat there as i work nearby. But something has to be more difficult than it appears in the McGuires 24 inch club challenge. It took Richard 20 minutes (record) and there are not many eaters to finish this in the alloted 40 minutes. It is likely very challenging, or people just do not want to risk having to pay 50 bucks for the sub 🙂 not sure.
If you want to remove Thomas Gilbert’s name from the menu there is a 7 lb burger (mostly lettuce caps) at chicago brewing company, record is about 12 mins (ft apache rd). Tequila bar at Ballys has a 3 lb texas burger, the wall of fame looks empty, 1 person, wall of shame filling up fast.
The B3 is slightly beyond my scope, and i am not a fan of burritos. Most would view this as the ultimate challenge in vegas. Some say it is more than 6 lbs.

Here is a photo from last week of the plaque at Johnny McGuire’s in Vegas: http://dogsarefunyes.blogspot.com/2010/12/johnnys-wall.html
And here is a little something about my eating of the Colossus at Emily’s: http://dogsarefunyes.blogspot.com/2010/12/colossus-burger_08.html

nice A-Bomb. All you can eat spaghetti, meatballs, salad bar is my usual meal there. weekdays they have 10 bucks in slot play for the $10 combo meal so sometimes the meal ends up being free. $4.99 quad stacks and great ribs.
I don’t understand the multiple numbers on the plaques at McGuires. That can’t be 28 hours. i understand the ones that have 20:19 that is 20 minutes and 19 seconds. But what about the ones that have XX XX XX? I think i will try this challenge on tuesday of this week. And it looks like someone broke Rich’s record including himself. maybe this will explain the numbers above 40 as well since the challenge is supposedly 40 minutes long.
congrats.

Apparently they are either unaware or don’t care that the plaque says “Wall of Shame”.

I am sure that it says wall of shame on purpose. gluttony is viewed by some as shameful. kind of like an ironic joke. Yeah i don’t understand the numbers. maybe 35 in front of the time means that instead of 24 inches they ate 35 inches. just a bad guess though. Tom did it in under 11 minutes. If it was a 48 inch sub then rich might have been able to preserve the record. I will try to get down there tomorrow evening. Lots of football tonight to watch.

i dont think toms record will be in jeopardy tomorrow. it took me 13 mins to finish 2 subway footlongs, spicy italian with everything. subway is a fairly light sandwich. i am sure they put more meat on a mcguire’s sub.

Cutter,
were you actually speed eating those footlongs?

not really, i was in a sportsbook. and my beverage was diet pepsi. i was going as fast as a could without drawing attention to myself. my friend had one footlong of his own, so it looked low profile. I started at 5:13 and ended at 5:25 but subway sandwiches are really not deep with meat. i could have had another. but still those people on that wall of fame are no pushovers. if it took them 18 mins, 23 mins, i am in for a hell of a challenge i think. on my last burger challenge i started out very strong with a record easily in hand, only to have to chipmunk the final 3rd for fear of losing it all over the place if i kept up that pace. I will try my best.

steph. you ate 14 hdbs in 5 mins. and that was picnic style. tonight i will attempt this sub but i am going cheesesteak on it. closest thing to cheeseburger i think. steph, for a girl or a guy that dog performance might translate into a nathans qualifier win with dunking and another 5 mins. in my humble opinion anyway.

Steph is a great eater, I can vouche to that. Her eating style reminds me a lot of what a mouse would do, she has fast hands and tears her food into little peices (pre-chews) and just swallows them. I think if she actually went to a Nathans qualy, with dunking she would be good for around 26-28 HDB’s give or take a couple.
Now if she made nathan’s the IFOCE would make her sign on the dotted line, which is something I’m not so sure she wants to do because of the strict rules that come with it (She’s more of a free spirit and likes to do challenges and contestest on the whim with friends…), but I won’t speak for her. The girl does have talent, there is no disputing that.
