OJ, I’m continually impressed with your patience and work ethic. This site has become what the 2 big Org’s could not do. You do not ask for any spotlight for your work, but it’s great that you support this community with your time.

While Anonymous commenting is important, I think it gets abused here as the lure of being mean without any accountability is too great sometimes. So many interesting articles and conversations devolve into the most base accusations. Whats a shame is that the GREAT eaters, the ones who’s opinions would be insightful (and who 90% of the news is about), dont feel comfortable commenting here under their true identities. They have grown tired of being attacked by Anonymous Arnie with a belly full of Meister Brau in some insane Homo-Erotic diatribe.

While I aspire to be great, I have a long way to go….which means I am still free to comment here. I urge more of you to do the same under your own names so we can continue to build this rich community, and not be forced to lock down free speech.

I’d like to see there be no anonymous posts and the banning of anyone caught using multiple log-ins from one IP. This site is good, but it could be great. The exchange of info is terrific, but, as STEAKBELLIE said, a lot of anonymous posts are just there to be mean.

Ditto Steakbellie. I don’t neccessarily know what should happen with commenting on this site but since its inception the tone of comments on Eatfeats has definitely changed. Honestly, it is kind of a fan site and with any visible sport you rarely see actual athletes making comments on fan websites. But I have always thought CE was unique and hoped we could have a voice somewhere where we could cohabitate with each other and fans without being too negative. It is a sad reflection on our state of being that an open forum that requires no accountability deteriotes to the lowest common anonymous denominator.

Probably the best solution is to have another site for eaters only. In fact when Larry and Bubba were keeping “The Buffet” alive, I thought that was a great forum for just eaters.

I have to echo the above posts; my vote is to eliminate anontmous posts and posts from multiple log-ins from the same IP address.

Still, your site is the best in competitive eating, OJ. Keep up the great work!

And Steakbellie, you ARE a great eater. I just wish you wouldn’t bash Arnie, who is a great guy, in my eyes.

I just want to say that DONMOSESLERMAN is the greatest competitive eater in the history of eating and there will never be anyone who can compare with him as a man and as an eater and as an American hero.

lol…I like how one person voted to turn off commenting completely.

I voted for auto posting of registered comments and moderated anonymous comments. Moderating those anon comments will be a tough job for OJ (though he already does that to some degree). Which ones get approved and which ones don’t? If a comment is “mean” or inflammatory, does that mean it shouldn’t be heard? You could argue that the comment shouldn’t be made in the first place (at least the mean ones), but it’s a tough call.

I think, when leaving inflamatory comments, greater leeway should be given to registered commenters who post under their real identities. If you want to stand by your words, feel free, but anonymous slander should be held to a higher standard.

Me want mean anonymous drawings on cave wall stopped now, until me can figure out what they mean – with no words, it hard to figger out who mean what. me need to start cave forum called The Wall, just for hungry cavemen, and cavewomen.

The day you censure some comments is the day Eatfeats becomes less interesting. It’s just words, mostly dribble, but, if these babbling brooks need to flow, let them. Anyone with a brain can pick out the sane comments from the insane, and some bloggers are so ridiculous, dumb, and outrageous, they provide levity without meaning to…
Rant on, anonymous answerers!! Let your freedom to be an idiot remain unscathed!!

That’s a good point Eric (The Red). I think there should be an online forum with an atmosphere wherby eaters don’t have to feel compelled to use a pseudo name.

I don’t know how best to achieve that, or if it is even worth pursuing. But it is a thought. And, you’re right about “The Buffet.” That seemed to be headed that way.

Damn! Luther pretty much regards DML as not just A founding father of CE, but as THE George Washington of the sport.

Don always will be very highly regarded, and I’m glad Luther is now attending to CE-related issues aside from gender. I was getting sick of reading about his thoughts on the latter issue.

No wonder Sonya and Juliet don’t post here, though I’m sure they vist eatfeats sometimes, because they both acknowledge it on their individual sites.

You think that Arnie is the only anonymous one? I’ve been stirring the pot under multiple names for so long even I forget who I am.

Anonymity is the only think that makes this site interesting.

My comment was directed at Luther’s remark, not yours, Rhonda.

Until Rhonda actually reveals herself (like most people do at some point) along with OJ Shea, the creepy and secretive nature of this website will prevail.

Even if it were true that Rhonda Evans is not my real name (It has been as long as I remember.), at least I have never tried to be someone else, but I sure see a lot of people using some variation of MY name. I should have the damned thing copyrighted.
