New Poll: most hot dogs eaten in any Nathan’s qualifier
The new poll asks what you think will be the largest number of hot dogs eaten at any Nathan’s qualifier. I believe the current record is 32 by Sonya Thomas at Norfolk last year (I am not sure how many hot dogs Kobayashi ate in the 2001 Tokyo qualifier) Joey Chestnut announced on the buffet message board that he plans to attend the Philadelphia qualifier, which is also the closest qualifier to Sonya Thomas, so it might take 35 or more hot dogs to win that event.

I realize Larue is not going to give me his title he is a great eater and definitely somebody not to be under estimated. With that said I’m bringing my “A” game and the chips will fall where they may. May the better eater win.

P.S. I’m nearly positive Joey was just messing with Humble Bob when he said that.

As I stated in previous posts, Philadelphia is the “City of Brotherly Love”. We welcome all eaters to compete here. If Joey is here on May 27, then good for him. As the current Wing Bowl Champion, he will be well received.
Good luck to everyone on Saturday. It will be a tough contest as it has a lot of ranked eaters in it. But whoever comes out on top will join Takeru as one of the first two entiries in this years contest.
I consider myself very fortunate to make the finals in the other three qualifying contests this past year, Grilled Cheese, Wings and Burgers. Hotdogs got me into the sport in 2002, but I have yet to make a Finals appearance. This year I hope to break that streak. Like Loren, I will bring my “A” game and whatever happens, happens.
Back to the topic though. I voted for 40+. I figure that I have never done the “deuce” (never 19 for that matter), so why not skip that and go for the “double deuce”? A guy has to dream, right?

If a great eater such as Humble Bob stopped at 17 or 18 hotdogs last year, then you know hot dogs are the hardest food to eat in competitive eating which is why i commend anyone that is capable of doing 20. I think Bob should get in this year with no problem

How do these qualifying rounds work? Only the top person advances to Coney Island? If so, that’s a shame because that means only Chestnut or Thomas will move on (if they both compete at the Philly qualifier). The IFOCE should fix that. Maybe create some sort of qualifier exemption based on ranking. Anyone ranked in the world’s top 5 should automatically earn a spot in the Coney Island line-up. It’s the best thing for the sport. After all, what would they do if Kobayashi had a bad day in Tokyo and suffered a reversal of fortune at the 10 minute mark? Good bye ESPN live telecast! Good bye ratings! Hello new hot dog champ?

An eater is allowed to compete in up to three qualifiers. The best second place total gains acceptance as a wild-card entry. There should be at least two wild cards for the 2006 finals since the Saratoga, NY contest was canceled.

Bob, you are the man. I wish you all the best in May and hope to see you at Coney this year.
