No offense to Bob or Tim —- they’re fantastic eaters —- but I have never quite understood how any eater can be ranked in front of Koby when he has never finished ahead of him.
It makes me want to laugh. I can see it now:
Sponsor for American-made merchandise: We want to have a one-on-one 5-minute hot dog eating contest between your number two-ranked eater (say Bob or Tim) and Kobayashi to show how Americans have risen to defeat this former great.
IFOCE: Okay, we’ll make that happen.
Sponsor after contest: Why is it that Koby is ranked two spots behind the person (Bob or Tim) whose ass Koby just handed to him, by a half-dozen dogs? Look, that’s just one contest, probably a fluke. Let’s do a series of five contests with different foods. That will give us a clearer picture. Let’s use pizza, baked beans, hard-boiled eggs, spaghetti, and okra. That’s a fairly wide vartiert of foods.
Sponsor after Koby wins all five: IFOCE, what in hell is wrong with your ranking system?
IFOCE: Well, Koby only competes a few times per year, and it’s not fair to our US-based eaters who compete a dozen or more times per year, to have Koby ranked ahead of them.
Sponsor: Do you guys drink heavily? If you don’t start. If you do, stop.

I can make a case for the U.S. Male being Number One in the world. He whipped Thomas in Crawfish, who has finished ahead of Bertoletti once or twice, who has beaten # 1 Chestnut in the last two weeks. So Male can beat Chestnut. I’d rank them
1. Male
2. Chestnut
3. Bertoletti
4. (T) Janus
4. (T) Shoudt
4. (T) Hunt
