Next poll choices – opinion on Krystal dunking ban
The next poll will ask what you think of the Krystal Square Off banning dunking. The current choices are listed below. Please list others you think should be added in the comments:
- Approve, the dunking ban will make it more difficult to cheat
- Approve, too much food was wasted if dunking is allowed
- Approve, contests allowing dunking are not visually appealing to watch
- Approve, the IFOCE circuit needed something to spice it up
- Disapprove, dunking had become a fundamental part of IFOCE contests
- Disapprove, the records will not be consistent from year to year
- Disapprove, the totals will drop
- Neutral, don’t have a preference for dunking vs. non-dunking

I agree with both “Approve, contests allowing dunking are not visually appealing to watch” and “Disapprove, the records will not be consistent from year to year”.

I agree with all the reasons for banning dunking. Sure, the numbers will go down from the drinking and drowning era, but those totals are so inflated they’re laughable. Look at the videos for the past 2-3 years for pity’s sake, the gurgitators aren’t eating anything that resembles a respectable Krystal slider, they’re warm water-laden drinking mush, much of which gets dropped or worn, assuming it isn’t still in the water cup.
Get back to basics, stop the waste, discourage “prechewing,” and make the totals plausible for once.
Nathan’s needs to follow Krystals’ lead!

As for this new rule affecting the records, I sympathize with that because I’m a baseball fan and a numbers geek. I’m still in favor of this new rule because it’ll spice things up and I think any record set in a “dry” contest like this should still be recognized along with dunking records, but with a separate entry in the books.
As a numbers geek though, I’m not too crazy about the Angus burger bonus. Eaters should not be given credit for eating 5 Krystals if they didn’t eat 5 Krystals.
Let’s say a guy eats 12 Angus burgers (we’ll call him Shmoey Shmestnut). Because each Angus “equals” 5 Krystals (even though an Angus is the equivalent in grams of 3.3 Krystals), that eater would be credited with 60 Krystals. Those 12 Angus burgers equal 2,424 grams consumed. Now let’s say another eater — his name is Bakeru Bobyashi — forgoes the Angus strategy and only eats Krystals. 59 of them to be exact. Those 59 Krystals equal 3,540 grams. Bakeru ate almost 50 PERCENT more in grams than Shmoey, but he still lost! That doesn’t seem quite right.

MM, according to the rules and Kenny Hammontree from Krystal, each eater will have a maximum of 5 Angus burgers. This levels the playing field; if you choose not to eat them, too bad for you. Using your numbers and calculations, the largest bonus you could get for eating the Angus burgers is 8.5 Krystals (1.7 Krystal difference * 5).

That’s a valid point MM. I can see where you’re coming from. Nevertheless, I sort of like the Angus burger angle. It forces eaters to match tactical wits with one and develop a particular eating strategy.
Smart eaters (like Koby and Pat B, for example) will quickly figure out the strategy that best works for them, and this will give them an edge over the S-L-O-W-E-R learners.

Ahh, good point GC. Forgot about the 5 Angus limit. Since it’s limited, I’m a little more on board with it. I still think it would be cool if eaters were allowed to throw food at each other and make disgusting wretching noises to throw their competitors off.

Who says they can’t make noises. You should’ve heard me giving Obi-Wing shit during the recent Sloppy Joe contest.
I believe I said “I’m killing you right now.” Then he said…. “I’ve gotta get a burp out.” So, I patted him on the back like a little Baby.

MM, with the detritus at the contests last year, depending on where you were on stage, you were getting food thrown on you. And I know there was some wretching noises going on at Knoxville.

If drinking from cups, the residual in the cups should be checked.
After the contest check the floor in front and under the table before announcing results
The use of bottled liquids should be in use.
Have some judges behind eaters to catch the behind the back toss

no kidding, last night I dreamed about a Krystal qualifier. they had us at a picnic table, some new guy ate 22 for second place, and I don’t remember who was first in a preliminary amueter contest. I was late, there was barely a space, and they let Boone in the contest The angus burger had all the condiments on it, and looked twice as big as it was supposed to be.

Wow, the poll results so far are 33-3 in favor of the dunking ban. Could a league-wide dunking ban be next?
