Some really great photos of Sonya Thomas at the Hillsborough Oyster festival:

For one of the toughest competitive eaters in the world, she cleans up nicely.

Wow Sonya does look terrific, Academy Awards style. Did I miss this event on eatfeats? I guess so. Was last year the only year she attended? I could look in the database but thank you for your comment and link.

There were four posts last year about the Hillsborough Oyster Festival where Colin Shirlow defeated Sonya Thomas

Thanks always OJ, I guess there are many riches on eatfeats that I forgot. Let’s hope Sonya returns this year and is the winner. She is always a beacon in competitive eating.

She looks even thinner in photos and on film than she does in person. Isn’t it supposed to be the opposite? I guess it’s the clothes. Dressing elegantly certainly becomes her.

For the jet setting crowd and fans of competitive eating, I highly recommend the Hillsborough Oyster Festival if you are looking to travel to Europe. The contest is a gas, and has more of an international flair to it than the contests held in the States. The photos of Sonya Thomas in her gown were taken at the Gala Ball at the night before the contest. Thomas was a guest of honor, but If you can swing a ticket to the ball I highly recommend it. The ball is held at the approval of the Queen on the lawn of the Hillsborough Castle. The castle is where the Queen stays while in Northern Ireland, something out of a fairytale and has played host to such notables as U.S. presidents, Kate Middleton (now Duchess Katherine), and was a favorite of Princess Diana. The town of Hillsborough itself looks like a set out of a Hollywood movie that takes place in Ireland. Belfast is nearby, with all its fascinating history and has become quite a cultural city. Bon voyage!

You would never guess she eats competitively if you didn’t know of her beforehand.
