From speedeat.com: “Gentleman” Joe Menchetti attended the contest and challenged Jarvis to a cannoli eating contest to be judged by Brian Seiken. Jarvis declined the challenge.

Corrected 11/03 9:35 pm: Menchetti did not attend the contest and the cannoli challege was issued five weeks ago.

I did not attend the contest. I challenged Cookie about 5 weeks ago. Speedeat chose to report on that issue in conjuction w/a Cookie victory. I thoroughly enjoy your site. Keep it up!

To clarify what went down on the Menchetti challenge, Right after Cookie won the Cannoli contest in NY , he called me from home discussing the event and i told him Menchetti issued a direct challenge to him on his site due to the fact that he himself won a Cannoli contest sanctioned by the AICE a short time before. Cookie then decided to place a three way call to Menchetti in which Menchetti practically pleaded with him to accept his challenge. Cookie refused to give in to the challenge stating it would prove nothing although i do remember him saying “Why does it have to be Cannoli’s.? I did offer to judge the event but it could never happen unless the IFOCE gave the approval and i think all of us were aware of that. If Cookie was really bent on doing this the only scenario i could see happening would be Cookie pleading with George Shea ” George please let me kick his butt just this one time ” . Smart move on Jarvis part backing off . Why would he risk jeopordizing a long standing committment to an organization he has been with for quite some time. He has everything to lose and nothing to gain where Menchetti craves the attention from his old organization(IFOCE) and will only lose some credibility with the AICE if he loses the match and everything to gain if by some miracle he wins

BB’s assesment or recollection of the 3 way call was largely correct. Though I (Menchetti) was pleading for Cookie to give an answer, not caring which way it went. He refuses, I get to call him a 500lb chicken, if he accepts I get credit if I come close to beating him, though I strongly believe I would stand an outstanding chance in the proposed contest..

Jarvis says he will post a rebuttal to Menchetti’s comments in the days to follow. Menchetti did finish ahead of Jarvis in a few IFOCE events in the past. However finishing ahead as compared to beating him to win a title is two different things. Also keep in mind the current version of Jarvis is light years better than the Jarvis i beat in pickles three years ago. I made a commitment to myself some time ago that if i competed in a contest that did not include booker, sonya jarvis and other top ten eaters., then i would be fooling myself if i won a trophy even if it means getting my ass kicked all the time. I understand the current AICE member’s frustration . He is bored beating the Mark Lyles, Podolksy’s and Doginator’s of the eating world.
