I really abhor the way Pat and his performance is being categorized with freak show type ostentations, and not sports or sports entertainment, as it should be. This makes it seem like CE is just to make people laugh out loud. Pat is more talented than that and deserves better. I almost think it would be an insult for him to win against:

Don the Cartwheeler? Sounds familiar . Was he in the IFOCE at one time? Has everyone heard the startling news ? Moses news.com reports that Lerman will be head judge at the Canonoli contest . Now we know where the IFOCE is headed

Rhonda, I have had arguments with people, even competitive eaters, who fell that this sport is nothing but a joke, something to catch the eye of passers by at a fair, a freak show, if you will. I really don’t have an argument against what they are saying, since there is that freakshow side to all who excel in any sport, but that seems to be the only quality of a good eater, at least in the public eye. Maybe if there was more to it, like plays involved, but does it sound right saying someone is a competitive eating player, like you would saying someone is a baseball player, or a hockey player? I know that gymnasts and skaters don’t fall into the player category either, but they are in a field where there is a routine put together that they perform, which makes it different. I will say that there are not many runners that the public can name, so competitive eating has gained some ground with publicity, compared to running.
