Ron Koch has sent the following email (update this is the entire email):

The forgotten eater Ron Koch has issued a challange to eaters 11 to 20 eating icecream, hamburgers,pasta or nathans fries..If he cannot win or finish in top three he will shake there hands and retire…………………………….

    Sounds a bit like Don Lerman. I think this will take care of itself simply by Ron entering standard contests and if Ron does well enough he will surely move up in the rankings ahead of some of these 11-20-ranked eaters.

    Koch and Lerman are in two different leagues. Koch had some health issues he had to take of. He is a very dangerous eater and he can beat 11-20. case closed

    Ever notice that the better eaters don’t have a need to talk smack. That’s why, at least in my eyes, when people do that TOO MUCH, it demotes them from whatever pedestal they perceives themselves to be on. But Ron certainly DOES NOT go overboard and he is still a superior eater.

    Also, the more I see comments those who perceive themselves to be in the pre-retirement years, the more respect I have for Rich “The Locust” LeFevre. I foresee Rich eating strongly well into his 70s, if he so desires. He’s that good!

    Ron, I don’t understand your challenge. You have chosen very specific foods including ice cream, which there was a contest held last year in early summer; hamburgers, which could only be Krystal burgers held in the fall or potentially Barrick Burger; Pasta, which to my knowledge there was no pasta contests last year; and Nathan’s fries, which there has not been a contest for two years.

    Maybe these are your best foods and that is fine but the only challenges that will take place are on the circuit so pick a competition and come do your best. I realize you have been off the circuit for awhile because of health reasons and I am pulling for you to come back strong because I respect your talent.

    But you don’t need to come back like Boone or Lerman throwing out combative and unrealistic challenges and boisterous claims; you are better than that (at least I thought you were).

    I believe that Don certainly has the potential to challenge for a position in the top 40, even today, so don’t underestimate him. Who should retire?

    I think what Ron means is any time any place. Hopefully the IFOCE could set something up for this challenge. lol Yeah right!! One eater, or all 11 through 20 at the same time. He is hungry to show the world he is not through with competitive eating quite yet. Remember the serious damage he did at the Barrick Burger contest. (4th place) I think he’ll smoke everyone 11 through 20!! He has every right to be boisterous, last I checked this is a free country. At least he’s adding some hype to the federation..

    Ron you would certainly be the favorite in ice cream, because of stomach capacity (assuming the contest is at least 8 minutes, which it SHOULD be). As a matter of fact you would finish ahead of several top 10 eaters in that food.

    Boone vs Koch is just the injection competitive eating needs to make it great. Not this point shit or 10-12 minute repetitive eating contest where the same faces show and the same faces win all the time. One on one is where its at and one on one is where is should have been at at all this time

    One on one is too cost prohibitive for it to be run on a routine basis. However, formats such as that, which existed in the Alka Seltzer US Open, need to be sought out from time-to-time, because they are entertaining AND a good litmus test of talent, when assorted multiple food types are involved.
