Do those odds take into account that both front runners are reversal risks? Koby allegedly did it last year (or was very close) and Joey, well I don’t really know, but he always looks like he’s about to lose it.
Seriously, they’ll be pushing each other SO HARD on Coney that I wouldn’t be surprized if they both reversed and someone like Pat or Chip swooped in and took the title with 45 dogs.

that is a great point about joey and koby may lose it and someone like pat or chip could take it but the point is an american is the favorite right now how long has it been since an american or anyone other than koby has been the favorite

Kevin is right. Those odds are like that because Joey IS the favorite. The odds do not mean anything other than the fact that more people want to bet on Chestnut right now. Those odds would be different if he didn’t try so hard on the qualifier, and either way, the bookies are going to make pretty much the same amount of money.

I think there should be better odds on the field. 20-1 is good, but does anyone really see someone not named Chestnut or Kobayashi taking this. Pat is amazing, and probably will be a Nathan’s champ one day, but it won’t be July 4, 2007. Sorry.

I think 20-1 is just a catch-all number, the highest they really ever go in a group event. If it was a two man or team competition you could see higher numbers depending on how preliminary betting goes, but here, they are going to get betting either way from the top two contenders, so it doesn’t matter what odds they place on the pack.

It’d be pretty stupid of Koby or Joey to continue to push hard enough to reverse, after the other guy already reversed, wouldn’t it?
there’s no way both will “blow” and their lead on the field will be big enough the guy who doesn’t reverse can pretty much stop

Koby should be the clear favorite. He is the smartest eater by far. He won’t “dumb” up on July 4th. After 97 Krystals Koby looked as fresh as a Daisy. Joey looked like he was going to lose it. He will follow through with that performance come July. We will see Joey have to turn his back on the audience sometime after the 11:20 mark.

? dude, fill yourself with over forty nathan’s, and get a guy next to you to throw up. If you don’t hurl, I’ll steal the mustard yellow belt and give it to you!

Man, I know what you’re saying Carey. Even with the piddly amount I had in me at the Bikini fries in Texas, some dude right next to me threw up half way through and I slowed way down after witnessing this, scared it might make me do it too. I think Joey and Kobe are top pros though and I would be shocked if there was two reversals.

Kevin, who was this IFOCE eater you are talking about with the roman incident? (got that phrase from a guy in Nanticoke, PA) I was contemplating this the other day. Valerian root smells alot like throw up, in fact, there are alot of pranks where you put a small amount in phone mouth pieces and users puke when they are talking on the phone. Get some powdered Valerian and release it at the right moment and you would have quite the impressive piece of performance art. Pro or not, that stuff causes some involutary reactions.
Rufus, the favorite is the one who everyone THINKS will win. Right now, that is clearly not Koby. Sure, there might be a close tie here on a CE blog, but the general public, and those at the sports book window, don’t know as much about the sport. Look at all the blogs out now talking about the american smashing the world record. That generates alot of sway. Oh, you are talking about who clearly will be the winner? Yeah, Koby. By a dog.

It wasn’t an IFOCE eater. It was just some local dude I think. He was beyond awful. I think he ate 3 fries before losing them. Kinda pissed me off because I would have done much better without that guy being there, but those kinda things happen, so I guess I have to mentally not get psyched out by it.
Speaking of making oneself vomiting, if it’s going to happen, it’ll happen at that blueberry pie contest based on Stand by Me. Lardass 2007. Everyone bring their valerian root!

Rufus, you’re right…Joey didn’t look as fresh as Koby did after Krystal. Then again, at the end of Nathan’s, 2006, it was Kobayashi who straigh up hurled. It’s been pointed out before, Joey looks like he’s going to reverse througout every competition.
