Kevin Ross noted that Takeru Kobayashi was dropped from the #3 slot in the IFOCE top 50. According to the cached previous rankings, everyone below Kobayashi to #36 was moved up a space. Sean Brockert was inserted into the #37 spot and #38-#50 remain unchanged.

To all the idiots living a pipe dream thinking Kobayashi would come back to the IFOCE like nothing every happened, wake up and smell the coffee. This is far from a fairytale with a storybook ending. IFOCE had the man arrested. Time to concentrate on the future and the future is promoting Joey Chestnut

I do not see Kobayashi ever returning to IFOCE. However, Nathan’s 2011 is a long way off. Depending upon what happens during the year, I could envision that if it were, in MLE’s opinion, of advantage to bring back Kobayashi to challenge Chestnut just for that contest, they might do it. Nathan’s is boring without Kobayashi. MLE would spin whatever they need to spin to get good publicity and more money in their own accounts.

I am fairly sure that Kobayashi would/could even agree to eat for no fee whatsoever given the opportunity to regain the crown against Chestnut. No one else has ever come close to Kobayashi. If, for some reason, Chestnut had to retire, X might chase Kobayashi. X has the desire. X and Kobayashi would make for very good press, but again, it isn’t Chestnut. If it were X and Kobayashi or anyone else, then he would ask for money. All speculation, anyone can speculate. Should be interesting to see what develops.

And Chestnut vs pat/shoudt/eater x and all the other top eaters is about 1/3 as exciting as chestnut vs kobayashi. IFOCE might find they are losing a bit of business now… just my speculation.

Good for wrecking ball to get his name on the top 50 but I think there are a few other more polished eaters/newcomers that should be considered.

But Chestnut vs all the other top eaters is about 1/3 as exciting as Chestnut vs Kobayashi. Im sure it wont be the same for the IFOCE again. But Kobayashi’s era is far from over, and i’ll be watching him keenly.

Brockert has one good showing, at corn, because NOBODY else showed up, and did ten (10!) hot dogs at a Nathan’s qualifier, and is rewarded with 37??

Agree fully with Rob from UK. Kobayashi did something pretty amazing all on his own this year (and previous years) without ever reading eatfeats or any of the eating websites including IFOCE. The year Chestnut didn’t quite catch him, Kobayashi didn’t even know how many Chestnut had eaten in a qualifier.

I would speculate that while Chestnut practices often and against healthy living, Kobayashi does not. Now the pressure is on Chestnut to eat and eat and eat in lots of contests, he is the face of MLE and Pepto-Bismol. Without Kobayashi to push him in hotdogs, I cannot see him pushing as much to eat against pat/shoudt/X or anyone else unless it would affect his bank account negatively. Those nitrates take their toll. And Chestnut is going to have to push himself to remain #1 because in that regard, Nathans is only one contest, he has lost in others.

Kobayashi is just beginning to see what offers may come his way. Language is not a problem, could even work eventually to his advantage. One commercial earns big bucks, all his. He is free in the land of so called freedom. In my opinion, MLE should have let Kobayashi eat just for this years Nathans, and pay him no money as he offered as a last negotiation. If he lost, the contest would have proven (to some) that he is a has been. They would still have had to figure out how to make Nathans more exciting in the future, but it would no longer be the Koby/Joey era in MLE, and they could have named their terms (if he still wanted in which he probably would not have anyway). Then MLE hugely compounded their problems by having him arrested. The heat of the moment wasn’t only with Kobayashi.

All of these events have helped all eaters in all organizations. MLE is going to have to dig themselves out of the fallout. Should be very interesting.

Well he’s certainly not going to come back before he’s sown his oats. If you go to all this trouble to earn your ‘freedom’ he’d be daft to come back before testing the waters of Independent Contests. July 4 is far away and Koby will still have lots of negotiating power as a legend. Lets see what happens. Either way it was a sad way for me to move up a spot.

    A. Nonymous said August 18, 2010 @ 10:05 am : Totally agree with you; for instance Larrell Marie has put up more impressive numbers then Wrecking Ball. She placed 7th in a stacked field for curly fries and her worst nathan’s performance was 14 HDB’s. Wrecking Ball is not deserving of such a high ranking merely for the fact that he purposed before a contest.

Oh let’s not keep it up. Let Wrecking Ball and his fiance enjoy his place in the rankings. It isn’t always about the eating. He generated some nice publicity and is enthusiastic. That counts too. It isn’t supposed to, I know, but really, the rankings are almost all subjective anyway. Fine to disagree but arguing about the rankings just proves again that there will always be people wanting to fill those ranks below the very top and pay their own way for everything. If you are trashing, it means you care, but not in a good way. Sometimes MLE doesn’t care enough to take the time to even be subjective, as was probably the case here. It was a nice gesture on their part to Wrecking Ball, and they are surely busy going after new contests. Doesn’t everyone want that? Without IFOCE, the competitive eating landscape would be pretty dull. And eatfeats would have no reason to exist unless something else came along to take their place, something I very highly doubt. They have built their following for a long time.

Ha – 10 HDBs? That’s a talent you usually see at the Kids neatest eater contest prior to the big boys (and girls).

#51 in the rankings would be more suitable. Brian Seiken could have been given that #37 spot.

While we’re discussing rankings, it is August 2010. Perhaps if you have not competed in the current year (from January to today), you should also be eliminated from the rankings. This would remove Hall Hunt (#8), Marco Marquez (#22), Arturo Rios (#32), Erik Unger (#35), Anthony Reganato (#36), Jon Lapolla (#42), Steve Ramirez (#45), Jon Bello (#46), and Shawn Kirby (#49).

Anonymous 1:50 makes more sense than whoever is doing or not paying attention to the rankings. I think a friendly e-mail to MLE might just have them take a look at that. When the work is being done for them in that way, that might actually appreciate it. It would still be subjective though because I think Hall deserves to stay. He did not disappear, had other things happening, think he was unemployed for a while, got married with a contest. Didn’t he go on a trip during the last year? oj to do the work here? someone else?

The rules say you can not compete in an unsanctioned contest without permission from the IFOCE. Maybe that is why Larrell Marie is not ranked and Sean Brockert is. Don’t be mad at Sean Brockert because he follows the rules and Larrell Marie doesn’t.

Ah, Steve was the guy that was in Bham with us last year then. I want to dress as the Easter Bunny for a contest for sure and have all my people show up dresses as bunnies and cheer. Sadly I do not need drugs to do it either. It is no worse than that failed zombie attempt at Nathans.

Anon 11:02 – hey, thanks for the comments; appreciate it. I was hoping for a ranking one day with the IFOCE but have a feeling that my participation in an unsanctioned contest may have ruined that dream. Too late now, but will always regret it. Not sure what you mean with the “stacked” comment tho but thx anyway 🙂 I hv faith in Wrecking Ball that as a ranked eater (congrats!!!!) he’s gonna prove himself as an awesome eater in future contests – Go Sean!!!!

Truth Hurts – in my own defense, I did contact 3 IFOCE members to let them know of my intent to participate in that particular contest, since I hv for the past couple of years, askn if there was any objection to my doing so again and to let them know that if there was ANY objection, that I would not participate. When I didn’t hear back from anyone, I went ahead and made the mistake of ASSuming that it must be ok otherwise I would hv been told differently. Teaches me to ASSume. So, “technically” lol, I didn’t break any rules as I did ask if there was an objection, right? 🙂
