Hmm, shall we watch a bunch of wannabes who can’t competitively eat as much as Joey Chestnut or Tim Janus? Or, actually watch Joey Chestnut and Tim Janus eat competitively? What a conundrum.

@4:12 pm Did you read Jamie “Bear” McDonald will be there he’s only been competitively eating for 6 months and has come close to beating Kobayashi in a pizza contest except for the fact that his jaw got tired. Educate yourself before you make dumb comments….

Without wanting to speak out of turn, it has to be said that Jamie is pretty remarkable. We ran an article about some of his recent exploits a couple of days ago and it could have easily run to twice as long.

No disrespect to all the other competitors but I for one will be watching the Fried Pie eating contest with great interest (albeit from the other side of the Atlantic). The guy’s amazing.

The Rake and Herald is simply awesome! Have a look and read and savor every word. It is entertaining, informative, on and one, and it also meshes beautifully with this website. It covers competitive eating as in all, great article on bacon shortage PR funnies made even funnier by R and H and a terrific article on Jamie McDonald with great photos and video. JM is more than an up and comer. He looks incredibly unassuming, fit, and it says he eats calmly (laconic) and tried to surpass Rich LeFevre’s record but failed on jaw tiredness, same as when he almost overtook Kobayashi. He is beyond the real deal. He must be studying tapes and should be a bit forewarned that Kobayashi did have a jaw problem. But I think Koby’s jaw problem was TMJ. Sure that Jamie will be doing jaw strengthening of some kind so as to not get tired. I doubt that those tootsie rolls are good for the teeth or anything else. Find some other way.

I agree totally 6:55! The Rake and Herald (R & H) is among the best in coverage of, attitude about, and professionalism toward competitive eating and its particpants.

A few self-exalting, CE sites would do well to try to emulate qualities the R & H epitomizes.

    Hello Rhonda and 6:55

Thank you very much indeed. I’m not sure what to say other than we really love competitive eating and I’m well chuffed you like what we do. Naader ‘Freak8r’ Reda has just joined the team as our new competitive eating editor (his debut piece is here: http://www.therakeandherald.tv/society/societystory.php?id=177) so hopefully we’ll be able to bridge the Atlantic a bit better from now on.

In the meantime, big respect and thanks back to all of you who have been reading our coverage and also major hats off to OJ, the Eat Feats website and all of you who post here. Big pats on the back all round, I say. Especially if you are/used to be/intend to be a gurgitator, whether MLE, indie, pro or amateur. We think what you do is literally amazing.

Incidentally, if you are a competitive eater, a promoter/organiser or, like me, a fan who simply loves the greatest sport on Earth, please feel free to get in touch (sleazyfilthpeddlinghacks@therakeandherald.tv; @RakeAndHerald; and http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Rake-Herald/415225855183712). We’ll try to get back to you as soon as possible.

Additionally, if you have any photos (of eaters, events, locations, crowds, foods, challenges, etc) that we can run, it would be greatly appreciated if you could send them to us as we’re running incredibly low (if you hadn’t already noticed). Naturally, we’ll happily include a photo credit and won’t try to swipe your copyright. Ditto any videos we can embed.

Anyway, apologies for the begging letter at the end there but big thanks again and long live competitive eating. It’s ace!

Rakey Boy deserves lots and lots of responses! And look at what he wrote. “Naturally, we’ll happily include a photo credit and won’t try to swipe your copyright. Ditto any videos we can embed.” Swamp him with “stuff” because this is how competitive eating should be!! Not saying to be I love everything, and you are going to have to be above board and clever to keep up with sleazyfilthpeddlinghacks. Get on the Rakey Boy train, some eaters and followers (me) are delighted and a few eaters and writers were there from the get go, Crazy Legs as writer and filmmaker comes to mind along with a few others. But many did not have staying power. I am not MLE but think Rakey Boy would be the first to say remember your contracts. Just a fan at large like Rakey Boy, just not as talented in writing and getting good stuff going.

    I guess I owe you a pint.
