Hmmm… a new restaurant for the list. Good job on those steaks. That finish time is no joke. Let me see if I can match 18 minutes.

The challange dont mean nothing, its your body and fre publicity. and if too many people do it the raise the amount of the food in the challange…You guys should ask for food surtificates or something.

Did I read that right? 10 pounds of cheesesteak in 7:30 and 17:52? Good God…

These men are monsters. I’m hoping I can finish those 10 lbs in the time limit!

I may just be revealing my near-total ignorance with this observation, but after watching the video, I have to ask… it seemed to me that Gilbert didn’t even bother chewing those gigantic mouthfuls of meat… stuff and swallow and stuff again… is that as hard on the digestive system as I think it would be? Or is that yet another way world-class eater’s body’s adapt to such speed and capacity? Does it just pass through intact (pardon the lack of tact in the question, lol), or is it brutal on the system? At least Juan appeared to chew… I only ask because it seems the meat in this particular challenge would require some chewing at least (as opposed to other food).
Just curious, that’s all. Still an ungodly accomplishment. Kudos to both of you. Hope to see Naader tackle this one as well.

Thanks for the encouragement. Dave, you ask all the right questions. Those are the same questions I had when I was starting out doing restaurant challenges and barely getting the food down in the time limit. I wondered.. there’s no way I can chew any faster, so perhaps they save time by just… swallowing things whole? And yeah, you’ve hit the nail on the head. Some guys do it a lot better than others.

I wondered the same thing for a long time until I read somewhere about how Kobayashi had the technique of not chewing but being able to bite off the hotdog or any other food and swallow whatever he was eating. It makes sense also that you would not taste the food. Of course, knowing a technique and being able to do it is something else. Joey always looks like he is in such pain when he eats hotdogs (not sure about other foods, have not watched videos), but he does look in pain. Kobayashi always looked comfortable, relaxed, methodical. Still wish they were competing against each other.

When I first started watching Joey eat, yes, he did look like he was in such pain, in trouble, and ready to reverse. Boy was I wrong!
Joey is a “violent” eater, in that he attacks the food and violently shoves massive quantities into his mouth, and seems to instantly swallow it, almost without chewing. He must have a very large or very pliable esophagus.
Koby, Sonya, and X are poetry in motion, especially X. Tim is deceptively fast. He looks as if he’s eating slowly, but because he’s so smoothly he eats faster than he appears to.
Watching Pat B. makes me want to look away. When he’s done eating, he looks as if he’s been in a fight, and you don’t know what/who actually won, Pat or the food. Did Pat attack the food or vice-versa. His performance could be the basis of a good sci-fi movie —- “Reanimator: Revenge of the HDBs!”
