Great job Tom.. You dont even have the savy to make it a show when you have no comp..For you to demoralize the customers because you dont know how to be a pro…I guess you have some friends at the radio station that makes it a given for you to be in the contest…I asked you to slow it down a bit to make it a show ,but no not the great Tom Gilbert. He has no sportsmanship in his blood……Good job 95.5 fm…hes your house champ

i was not notified that i was in the contest until 3 hours before the event. others showed up because of the confusion about and there might be standbyes. the registration process was not the best. random draw and you never knew when they drew names. i was willing to give up my spot to another local who is very good. unfortunately my friends showed up so i sucked it up and ate. thomas is a beast. i wish i or someone else was capable of pushing him. my performance was lousy for many reasons. but i would have lost easily on my best day.

Cutter, What I’m angry about is as an MLE eater we have a code, whenever in a non pro contest when allowed ,do not intentionaly try to embarasse people around you ..Put on a good show, let everyone eat…Tom is so eager to prove himself superior that he forgets about everyone around him. If Vegas Country is going to make him the house champ , up the prizes for everyone so there is more of a chance…What surprised me is the people thought it was an honor to be beat that bad..What he needs is to be humbled..Just maybe Ill bring some pros to his next local contest..His ego needs to be squashed

It was a pleasure meeting up with you Ron. And that guy that was told to show up but didn’t get in, he is one hell of an awesome eater. There are plenty of local contests in this town, i am pretty sure all paths will continue to cross. i understand now.
thank you said

I will have to disagree with you on two things 1. There is no “code” maybe you have one which is admirable. When I compete pro’s or non pro’s I go all out, I think it’s more of a tease if you just do well enough to beat those around you. 2) mle has no morals or honor they don’t care about anything but dollars, I love the money they put up which gets better all the time. The only eaters that are given any considerations are their cash cows

I think Goose would welcome the challenge of any “pro” eaters you could bring Ron. Though I don’t understand how they would be allowed to compete, but you wouldn’t be allowed?!?
In the video it did not seem as though Goose was going 100%. If he won last year, in most events, he would & should be allowed to defend his title, even if the rest are picked by lottery.
I have found that most of the time other competitiors, are excited just to be sitting at the same table. Its the friends & family that are occasionally…disappointed.
HOW DO YOU HAVE A CODE FOR SOMETHING YOU ARE NEVER ALLOWED TO DO. (Yelling is intentional)
I myself prefer to…coast when possible. But I very rarely get rid of the food I put in. Others bring ipicac w/them, to make sure they can get rid of those additional calories & can eat all damn day.
Up the prizes?! Goose himself only won breakfast. (said like Iverson said “practice”) Ok up to 52 of them, but we are still talking bout breakfast.
It sounds as though you are jealous that you aren’t Vegas Country’s golden boy.

Hey Ron. I get where you’re coming from, but I met Goose and he actually seems like a pretty humble person. I know a lot of guys who need an ego check, but I don’t get the impression Goose is one of them. IFOCE contests too are usually 1-3 people completely demolishing people such as myself. It’s tough to expect someone to go less than their all on purpose. I think people just eat the best they can and whatever happens happens. It isn’t really Gooses fault that he’s better than who showed up (or was allowed) to eat. In a weird way, it seems more obnoxious to eat way slower than you need to on purpose. Almost seems condescending, like “well I could beat you, but I’m going to just pretend to let you catch up, just so I can demolish you at the end whenever I feel like it”. So I agree with you it’s fun to see a close contest and not have one person completely demolish the field, but the reality is most contests are like this, whether they are IFOCE or local deals. Local competitors have become so good (Stonie, Excel, Torres, Goose, etc), they are better than many IFOCE people. So the line is pretty blurred now as to what even makes a “pro”. Rambling paragraph over.

Ron, I understand what you are saying and trying to make a point of. However, take time to look at it from other standpoints.

Tom signed up just like 15 others did. Signup started on the 3rd, contest was on the 17th. I called the station on the 15th to see what my plans would be on thursday and I was told that people were not selected yet. At noon on thursday i got a call to show up. Others were told that they could show up in case there were no shows. The station says that all entries were random including Goose, he didn’t get to eat cause he won last year according to them. These things are always fun, even though i won some free meat from certified angus and some meals at hash house (which i love), i regret not resting and doing later in the evening. I have no opinion or knowledge of the code, i am not likely to ever have to worry about slowing down for showmanship. I don’t think Ron is jealous.

Ron, was the code in play during the Nathan’s in Vegas last year when you ratted Tom out to George so Tom couldn’t compete and beat you horribly again?

I love this brethran code of ethics. Code of ethics my fuckin ass. Everyone is out for themselves and end up ratting other eaters out by fwd email to the shea brothers whenever the opportunity arises. Did Ed Jarvis follow the code of ethics amongst competitive eaters ?

TOM WAS GIVEN A CHANCE TO SIGN WITH MLE but turned it down to be independent………Hmmmm let me guess who you are…..Could this be a nathans loser last year……..Losing dont bother me,its the brotherhood that matters to me….Competition is what we live for , winning or losing against eachother something you’ll never understand..I know you put on a great show before the contest but so what..You still lose””’ I dont see you listed in the top 50 anymore…I’ve been beaten by the best, but not by you ever….

Ron would you agree that this song should be the future national anthem for all MLE so called brotherhood. Its outdated with some major flaws in the lyrics but im sure if we took a vote all the loyal eaters that look out for their fellow man would agree

Then hopefully Joey Chestnut slows the pace down at Nathans this year because it will be a shitty “contest” without Koby there. Is that what you’re saying?

But you did rat him out. I was there. When he knew he couldn’t eat, then everyone told him to go up and just sign the contract, which he chose not to do. He was going to be able to eat until you tattled on him. I saw it with my own eyes, but you thought nobody saw you. Deny it all you want though, if that makes you feel better.

This is kind of funny to me because people keep saying that so and so ratted someone out but the person, the one ratted out, is trying to get away with something? Then some members of the same group say that so and so would still be with the group if someone else had not ratted them out? Lots of blame and finger pointing and even saying that this place causes problems? Maybe there is something I do not understand. It seems pretty basic to me. Follow the written rules and you’ll be fine and not surprised or disappointed.

That’s my point. You say you’re friends with so-and-so and then you stab them in the back, but play innocent. And you couldn’t have beat me, because I’m not an eater.
