Why no Joey? Why the heck does MLE continue to let people like Rene, Gebhard, Raible do these contests? They should really have to qualify annually by performing some kind of eating challenge–almost like a “driving test” that shows you are “suitable for driving on the roads”. I see Chiger is still making his appearances on the MLE circuit–do we need to set-up a crowdfunding site to help offset the cost of his plane ticket or gas money/tolls?

In the Hochman & Crowder interview before Wings for Wishes, Joey said he currently does not have an MLE contract for 2024 Nathan’s. They might be locking him out until he extends.

That’s an interesting theory. I would argue that MLE needs Joey way more than Joey needs them. Without him, the face of Nathan’s Fourth of July contest would be an Australian. Not a good look for a hotdog eating contest held on America’s birthday… then again, maybe they are grooming, James more than we thought they were.

If Joey didn’t post a single camera training video to youtube years ago, I would not believe his hotdog numbers are real.
The contest went from 12 to 10 minutes in his first years, making it even more amazing.
Not looking forward to his exit – and truly wonder if anyone else is willing to put themselves through that kind of hurt.

You would assume that Matt Stonie and Sonya Thomas would have continued with MLE (or at least put out a retirement or contract non-extension announcement), but they just stopped doing MLE competitions without any explanation.

Stonie did NOT need MLE, his YouTube income was many times higher than MLE / MLE-brokered sponsors could provide. Not sure of Sonya’s reasoning–I think her departure was more for personal/health reasons.

If Joey does retire, I hope he post more of his past training footage online! He has claimed to have done more in training than at Nathans, so would be really cool to see an 80 HDB practice run. You know he films almost every training session too, the man is devoted to preparation and watching film to get better too. Truly a legend in the hotdog contest world.

They need new faces in MLE.

We will soon see if anything special comes from the qualifiers.

We want to see the qualifier locations and dates first, though! I doubt anybody “new” comes out of the blue in qualifiers. JWebb doesn’t need to qualify, so we won’t know his true HDB numbers until July 4th (unless he posts training videos like he has in the past…but he’d be smart to not do this and keep Geoff and Joey guessing about his total HDB numbers this year).

What do you mean an Australian wouldn’t look good on the Fourth of July. It’s been proven without a shadow of doubt Nathan’s is owned by the Chinese. They completely own the company that makes Nathan’s. What a joke This has been fact checked by the way.

We know Geoff is capable of 50-53ish, he’s consistently great. James will likely be around the number as well and maybe beat Geoff. Nicks will be the same like they always are even though he says he’ll do more. He peaked. Pat may get his numbers back up if he wants to train hard. Maybe a new international eater.

Back to the Fudge event: The fudge factory randomly selected a non MLE participant to compete yesterday. I am not seeing a eating contest background in a web search, but both the owner and this fellow will also be eating.

@9:35am — I think Webb will be in the 56-58 range this year to be honest. His capacity is pretty crazy and we all know how quickly he can eat hot dogs (really any food). Geoff is going to have to be firing on all cylinders to beat him this year. I’m not sure if Pat even wants to do Coney Island this year. Otherwise Nick will be behind Geoff, and then presumably Bartley bringing up the rear with a similar number (41?) as last year.
