Wife Swap teleblog
A live blog of Badlands Booker’s appearance on “Wife Swap” occurs after the jump:
updated beautifulbrian.com has an article about the episode and reality TV calendar has a longer synopsis than can be found in the liveblog. I will try to post some video captures later today.
8:05 The show starts with Booker talking about his competitive eating career. Booker then talks about his rapping. Booker’s wife, Regina, is shown cleaning. Booker’s son, Brandon, is shown relaxing. Regina then goes to the beauty salon. Booker’s career as a subway conductor is not shown at all.
8:07 Jennifer “All American” Alcorn is shown exercising and training her clients. Her husband is a homocide detective. The Alcorn children are shown practicing their sports and doing chores. Jennifer has a Friday Night Fight club.
8:10 the swap occurs and the wifes look over their new residences. The wives have written instruction manuals. The Bookers say we are “Hungry and Focused”
8:15 back from commericals. Regina is described as “weak willed” Jennifer says she will “beat this family into shape” Booker tells Jennifer his eating resume. Jennifer talks about her boxing career. Regina gets a boxing lesson since it is fight night tonight. Badlands does a training run with 10 hot dogs. His goal is 2 minutes. Booker finished in 2:03 while Jennifer looks on with revulsion. Regina wakes up at 4:45 (which is 7:45 eastern) to do a truncated walk (she was supposed to do 3 miles in an hour and comes back in 5 minutes). Breakfast for the Alcorns is just a protein shake. Jennifer cleans the Booker household while Badlands sleeps and then heads off to work. Regina takes over Jen’s training class and oversees the exercisers which she has difficulty doing. Jen exerices in Regina’s office job. When Jen gets back, Brandon is surfing the net. Regina oversees the Alcorn’s childrens training and chores. Jen rewards Brandon despite his failure to do any chores. Jen says Regina wants to avoid conflict. Regina dines with the Alcorns but Mr. Alcorn has to leave to do his job. Regina asks Brad how much “quality time” he spends with his children. Jen goes to a buffet with Badlands where he is joined by Cookie Jarvis, Don Lerman and Crazy Legs Conti. They presure him to eat healthier and say the buffet has turned into an intervention.
8:28 Now it’s the wives turn to set the rules. Jen says she “will beat the Bookers into shape” and convert the yard into a training facilty. Regina says there will be no more sports and the Alcorns are going to write a song together. Jen assigns Brandon his chores. Regina says she will have a pizza party. Jen put the Booker’s on a healthy diet and says she will get rid of his “training food”. Jen will put Booker’s eating trophies into storage. The Alcorns immediately break all of Reginas rules. The Alcorns are punished by doing a group hug. Jen sets up a scale which says Booker weighs 470 lb, which Badlands denies.
8:35 Jen wakes the Bookers and cooks them a healthy breakfast and then leads a three mile run. The Alcorns take advantage of Regina’s “weak will” and break all her rules. Jen packs away all Badlands’ trophies which he has a major problem with. Regina takes the female Alcorn children to a beauty barlor for “girlie time” Brad takes the girls away to sports practice. Jen calls San Diego Charger Lorenzo Neal for reinforcements. He says he is not here to be the Bookers friend. Regina is despondent that the Alcorns do not follow her rules. She brings her friend Felicia to help her enforce her rules.
8:44 Lorenzo Neal sets up a punching bag for the Bookers. Jen is sad she can’t get Badlands to listen to her message. Regina helps the Alcorns write a rap song. Brad says that Regina has brought creativity to the Alcorns. Lorenzo Neal leaves and Jen has them pick up all the floor rugs. Booker is shown doing chores. Felicia leaves now that the rap song has been completed. Regina has the Alcorns eat a meal together. Brad apologizes to Regina for breaking her rules. Badlands does some sprints in the back yard, his weight is down to 460.
8:53 Jen says that the Bookers have payed attention to her message and rewards them with a chain. The couples reunite. The Alcorns say they need to spend more time together and have fun outside of sports. Badlands says that Jen has motivated him and Brandon to become healthier.
8:59 Several weeks after the swap the Alcorns say they have not changed at all and they boast about their lifestyle. Regina has formed an exercise club and Bookers retirement from competitive eating is mentioned. As the credits run, Jen and Badlands perform a rap.

I wonder said

One has to wonder if booker retired because
A. Make it look good for the production of the show
B. The Alcorns actually set him straight on his eating habits
C. The Sheas made a deal with him to quit for the sake of the network and eventually bring him back at a later date

If you want to talk consistancy crazy legs always manages to have the honor of getting his mug into every single tv slot that has anything to do with competitive eating. You have to wonder if he has a special clause engraved in his ifoce contract.

Great job Badlands!!! Entertaining. I wish that they had shown other eaters that weren’t 470 pounds, and were in rediculous shape like Kobe. Crazy Legs tried to make the point that it was Bookers decisions away from competition that led to his weight problem. Would have been nice to see them drive that point home, yet probably not good for ratings. Best of luck with your fitness goals. It appears you have a wonderful, loving family.

Savage to answer your question. How would it look if Kobe, Bertoletti Eric the Red or any of the thinner eaters were married swapped wives and got blasted by Jen Alcorn reagarding their eating habits ? Not too good for the sheas and competitive eating . The Sheas would never approve something like that nor would they hype a show of that nature on their website. They knew exactly what they were doing The Shea’s more or less gave their blessing to the networks that its ok to badmouth the combo of competiitve eating and being overweight by using Booker as an example. The Sheas new motto is an attempt to promote fitness and healthy looking eaters with the hope that they will get the public to believe that competitive eating and being thin work hand in hand

Hey Badlands, congratulations on a FANTASTIC show! Lorraine and I were out in Long Island on errands and saw that we had no shot to get back home to watch it in time, so we called up Don Moses Lerman who was a few miles from where were were on the LI Expressway and he graciously invited us over to his house to watch the show in style at his crib. We raced over there, got there within mere minutes of the show starting and thought it was one of the most entertaining shows we have seen. Great work and keep up the good work on your diet. Eat LOTS of veggies, HUGE MASSIVE salads (with LOW LOW CALORIE dressings, try Balsamic Vinegar) and you will NOT go to bed hungry, but you will be FOCUSED on your diet. If you go to bed hungry, that is NO GOOD for your diet or your mood. Trust me on that. I am in the middle of my own diet right now. Down 33 lbs, 49 more to go. No reason to be hungry on a diet at all. Looks like the show was a lot of fun, you must be a good salesman to have talked Regina into the wife swap. Not sure if I could have pulled that off at my house with the boss of my house. 🙂

Great show from an entertainment standpoint. As for what it did for the image of competitive eating, I’d have to give it a C-. Not that good, unless you believe that “any PR is good PR.”
It could be just because I’m on the inside of the sport. To the average person, maybe CE came across like the fun, goofy game that it is. Hard to say.
I will say, Booker’s family came out looking better and more likable in the end. That other family was just cold and weird and militant. By the way, did you see that “woman” on the right that Regina was jogging with toaward the end of the show. Holy crap, Ahnuld!

This lists the history of Alcorn’s record. I think she won her first “title” (which was vacant) by beating someone who was 7-6 career. Alcorn’s fights before that were against people with horrible losing records. Her last “title” (another vacant one) came against someone who took the fight TWO yes TWO days before the fight.
She says that CE isn’t a sport? Look in the mirror you pro boxer wannabe!

First off women shouldn’t be in boxing to begin with and i wouldnt waste the energy of my finger to click the link to her boxing career. I would have spit in her face if she told me to throw my trophies out. Then she runs into the kitchen with green beret overalls calling for backup like this is a job for special forces. Gimme a break. Another note : Back in the days when i was going to school during a parent teachers meeting, if a white teacher ever told a black female parent that she is not raising her kid properly she better hop the next jet to pluto or face some serious music.

I was out of town this week and just got a chance to see the show. (My wife DVR’d it for me, which was nice.) I thought Booker was great, and he (along with his family) came across looking quite reasonable. The Alcorns came across like psychopaths. They showed some humanity in Jennifer, but the father and kids… oh my god, lighten up!
Anyway, CE got the regular rap it usually got. I agree with “The Wise One” above that it would have been harder to portray CE as bad if they profiled someone who was pretty fit. Heck, I would have loved to have seen what Rich & Carlene would have done. I’d bet Carlene would have put Mr. Alcorn and his obnoxious kids in their place.
Great job Badlands, and great job to your family. You are very lucky to have Regina go through this for you.
As for the questions y’all have on Eric’s retirement, when I spoke with him at Buffalo this year, he said he was “taking a little break” rather than retiring. I think he’s getting into shape and dropping some weight, and he’ll be back at the table soon enough. Eric, when you drop the weight, you’re gonna be unstoppable!

My sister in-law lives in the same neighborhood as the Alcorns. She said the Alcorns are nice people and that they said they didn’t know how it was going to be edited because Regina is such a sweet person and everyone loved her. Everyone knows that in Wife Swap the new family is supposed dislike the new Mom.
