I do not have all the details at this point, but it appears that Wing Bowl 25 will have a format change that will lock out Molly Schuyler from defending her title.

why would anyone do that?

Because entertainment is more important than a real contest where the best one wins..
Competition creates drama, drama creates interest, interest sells tickets..
Poker players learned this skill years ago, make it look like you opponent had a chance to win and just got unlucky.. If done correctly you will face this opponent again…
If you demolished your opponent so badly, they have no Chance to win a rematch, they won’t try, thus you won’t get the financial benefit from the rematch
The concept applies to CE as well.. Keep the contest close, keep the people paying the prize money happy, keep the people watching interested and you might get to keep winning the prize money.

No past winners allowed.
They did it as well in wingbowl 17 I think
They called it the virgin wingbowl

Looks like the top 3 will be Notorious Bob, Tigers Wings, US Male. Not necessarily in that order.

The word lock out proves what a sham this event is especially the ones that run it

What a pathetic “format change”.

The format change is being changed back to what it originally was the first 12 years. Wing bowl was always a local event before MLE got involved and outside pro eaters took it over. Seems like the people that run it just want to return to that format once again on the 25th anniversary year. Is that a bad thing?

I wonder if they will change the qualifying format by allowing entry to some one who can’t finish a can of corn. Hmmm Hmmm.

US Male won the “side bowl” like a side pot in poker. Doesn’t count

231 to make the analogy of wingbowl with poker is absurd. Rarely do you ever find a repeat winner in poker tournaments because of the high variance and the large player pool especially in the World Series events . You need to get by hundreds or sometimes thousands of entries in the prize pool to make the final table let alone cash in the money. Pro boxing would make for a good analogy . When a champion is overthrown they usually are entitled to a rematch . If the former champ fails to regain the title they rarely get a third shot. Rubber matches usually bring in the big bucks . With Wingbowl the mentality is just the opposite . Molly wins title Pat beats Molly , Molly regains title now she’s worthless to them so they ban her . Obvious they are looking to set it up for Wingador to make another comeback

Reminds me of those underground card games where you get in by invite only. After you run over the table a few times they won’t allow you back in

@231
Would the analogy hold more true if you were thinking about a “cash game” which is where the money actually is, instead of w.s.o.p.?
The money in poker, for the BEST of the BEST, is in cash games against wealthy people who want to compete and see how good they are. If the world class poker player keeps the game close and makes it look like they just barely won, they might get a to play the wealthy person again and take their money again.
Whereas if they demolish and embarrass them and show just how much better they are than their opponents, there will less likely be a rematch

Doesn’t Dave Brunelli usually reverse before the end of Wing Bowl? That’s how everyone passes him.

There is a huge difference between wealthy players and world class players. The world class players achieved their wealth through playing and studying . The wealthy players splash around money with no real knowledge of the game except for the fundamentals

El Wingador is not being set up to return because the rules are “no prior champions.”
