The top 3 from today’s Nathan’s qualifier in Beijing: 1) Chris Lam 16 hot dogs 2) Lv Mingkui 13 3) Wang Ranglong 12. Joey Chestnut ate 39 hot dogs in five minutes in an exhibition. update China Daily has a gallery. The winner, Chris Lam, is from Hong Kong and a member of the “Eatcredibles” competitive eating team. update June 19 The Wall Street Journal has a blog entry and video about the contest.

    guess they didnt come close to finding a new Kobi now did they, what a waste of time and money on that one

    Guess they did not find the next Kobayashi in China or the next top eater. But it gives lots of recognition for the sponsor who has fully entered the market in China. I bet it takes off, this is just the beginning. Japan isn’t going to be in the news for competitive eating in the near future. And you never know…….Koby could make a return to MLE after he really learns to speak and understand English. Never say never.

    what would fully understanding english have to do with koby’s return to MLE? He understands english fine and has translators… If he returned to MLE he would have to do it under MLE’s terms for him just like every other eater… Understanding english has nothing to do with anything pertaining to the situation… Yeesh cutter sometimes I truly wonder about you….

    as a side note. 39 hdb’s in 5mins is nuts! Does anybody know how many joey had down at the 5min mark in 09′ when he did 68?

    Face Palm, what do you wonder about me? I don’t know who SI is but I assure you that I am not the same character. I agree that speaking english has little to do with whatever contract problem that he had. It is probably better that people assume that he doesn’t speak english. I am pretty sure Kobayashi has an understanding of English. Sarcasm often finds its way past me. (And sometimes blind people do know a little about colors, especially ones that were sight capable at one time. Besides try describing a color to somebody LOL.)

    Was Chestnut’s 39 hot dogs or hdbs? I assume hdbs now that the Toad has researched the 5 min mark of Joey’s best performance.

    Remember Chestnuts best Nathans had good conditions, numbers were higher for other competitors as well.

    Haha. 3rd place was Wang Ranglong. Haha. Foreigners have funny names. Wang. Hahahahaha. Wang Ranglong hahaha even funnier.
