update Apr 25 Gaming Today has an article which claims that Adrian Morgan qualified for the finals.

6:47 Naader Reda has the top 3
1 Sean Gordon 30 hdbs
2 Adrian Morgan 27
3 Stephanie Torres 23 4th woman to break 20 hot dogs, best female debut of 10 minute qualifier era

6:44 It appears Rich LeFevre is competing according to this picture

6:38 The contest has started

6:27 Introductions have started

Some thoughts before the qualifier:

  • Sonya Thomas Nathan’s debut was 18 hot dogs in 12 minutes with no previous eating contests. Juliet Lee ate 28 in 12 minutes after competing in the IFOCE for almost a year.
  • Unresolved questions about the women’s division: Will Sonya Thomas receive a bye since she is the women’s record holder | Will there be a women’s wild card? (if two women exceed 10 hot dogs at one qualifier)
  • The differential between the men’s and women’s Nathan’s prizes has been receiving some critical media attention: Time | Eater.com | Jezebel

Good job Sean Gordon. I thought the enchanting S. T. was suppose to win in a route. Of course, she’s just out to have fun.

Great numbers for a qualifier. Impresive start that of Stephanie! I hope Adrian Morgan makes it to Coney this year, honestly i feel a little sad for him. He kind of steals the attention to the winner. Hopefully it was a fair win, wasn’t it?

Best of lucks Adrian, you deserve to be at Coney! You’d get your seat on your next qualifier!

Steph is remarkable, her achievements can not be overlooked. I thought adrian or flash were capable of losing in this “diverse” field. i thought one local lesser known was also capable of challenging for the spot. I was wrong.

congrats to steph while morgan and flash show vegas what mle eaters are made of.

notables: Ron Koch with an impressive 18 hdbs.

not sure what was happening at the other end of the table with the other local and lesser known eaters. i was in my own zipcode. finished with a somewhat dissappointing 8.5.

I really believe S.T. is capable of twice that amount, the only issue is she has never done a speed contest and she has no prior hot dog experence. If she continues on this road and learns techinque, speed and increases her capicity I believe her capabilities have no limit. Stephnie, great job, well done.

This woman is better than black widow who stays away from challenges only because she doesnt have what it takes.

Someone just spent a lot of time putting down Stephanie Torres. Sonya debuted at 18. Some comments were ridiculous and not respectful of Sonya, but that is how this place works. New women’s division is great. Let’s see how it goes.

It is a terrific idea. The Sheas are the best at re-inventing themselves. Everything else is a result of what they do and have done. Too busy to be perfect, they are the reason this place and any other website about competitive eating exists.

Joe is right. With better technique and increases in speed S. T. might indeed eat twice that amount. She just has to improve by 5 more over her best.

I thought Stephanie had been eating in challenges and competitions for two years? Sonya did eat 18 HDBs in her first contest ever. But, after two years she was well into her 30s in HDBs. Secondly, what if Sonya wins her qualifier? Would that make the second place male at the qualifier a wild card or would that eater get a winner guarantee to Coney in the mens division?
