Joey Chestnut ends Sonya Thomas’ WingFest streak at 5
update Sep 3
The festival facebook, Peter Dunn and Legend Larry’s have galleries.
Brian Seiken has videos: Contest | Interview with Badlands Booker | post-contest trays
jkoszcela also has a video.
Dan Gronkowski of the Cleveland Browns attended the contest
Gersh Kuntzman has an article for the New York Daily News about the contest.
The Daily Mail asks if Sonya Thomas has lost her bite
update 7:53 The Buffalo News reports that Sonya Thomas was the runner up with 6.36 lb. Joey Chestnut’s poundage was 7.61. With Mike Landrich’s comment below and Brian Subich’s claim he was 5th & Badland Booker was 6th, the top 5 is:
1) Joey Chestnut 7.61 lb new record
2) Sonya Thomas 6.36 lb 5 contest winning streak ended
3) Juliet Lee
4) Jim Reeves
5) Brian Subich
6) Eric “Badlands” Booker
update 6:04 Sonya Thomas and Juliet Lee apparently both finished in the top 3 according to the Wingfest twitter, but does not list their order. I have not seen any other placings besides the winner.
update The festival twitter announces Joey Chestnut won with a record total of 191 wings. This breaks Sonya Thomas’ five year winning streak at the contest.
The contest page on the festival website has not been updated with the 2012 field; it still lists last year’s competitors.

I think somebody forgot to tell Pat Bertoletti that Matt Stonie was not going to be there. It’s too bad that Deepdish now fears Mega Toad. With no doubt, Stonie is the #2 eater in the world, soon to be #1. Watch out Flabby Jaws.

Joey has no competition. He is without question the best eater in the world. Everyone else is a table ender.

It’s like all the attention goes to the winner. Everyone else is forgotten or does not exist.

That was for the money. They wanted to weigh the top 5, then present the checks and then weigh the rest of us. The top 4 were pretty easy to pick out. You whiners really need to get a life and learn how competition works. Run something yourself sometime and see how important it is who came in 6th, 9th or 13th, when all that matters are the money slots. Buy some Kleenex and cry a river

There was plenty of room at the table this time meaning top eaters are vacating this contest during the last few years. Bryan Beard had enough of this nonsense. Pretty soon it will be Joey Sonya with the rest of the field consisting of a bunch of local walk on / Oh lets not forget Wild Bill. Someone has to keep score.

Kuntzman is still covering comp eating? I thought he gave that up in 2004? I want to thank him for cutting out my image from the daily news link. Not being sarcastic at all. I dont need that kind of publicity for the assholes at my jobsite. Publicity i dont need

My BS meter says that BS’s comment is exactly that, BS. Sorry Brian but if you had done your homework since you say you are a journalist and know so much about the sport you would know all about Gersh Kuntzman who is a paid journalist with a prolific career and one of the earliest huge fans of competitive eating. A-holes are at your jobsite, you do not want publicity, well maybe the part about the publicity there is true but why call the people you work with those names. Your public persona is frankly lousy. Publicity you do not need? That is all you strive for, publicity, publicity, publicity. I am guessing, could be wrong, but think that you would have loved to see your mug in the NYDN. It would have made all of your aggravation going to Beefalo worthwhile. Maybe you SHOULD consider strongly leaving MLE and going independent. You are always independent minded anyway, usually tearing others down. Just my opinion, it’s a free country.

Sorry 1005 deadwrong on that. My worst enemies on this very blog including yourself are a welcome breath of fresh air compared to the jealous low life I work under. How would you like to work under a manager that every now and then rubs it in my face that she could have written me up for competing in a pickle contest in may 2004 only because she just happened to be watching the food network repeat 5 yrs ago . Mind you not even taking into consideration I might have put in for the day off .Trust me my pic on a page of the daily news is something I don’t relish any longer. So stick your biased opinion up your ass when you know very little about the coniving jealous cut throat weirdos I deal with on a daily basis

Why does Seiken focus on post contest trays in a weighted event. He, like Gavonne, though not as much as Gavonne, just tries to stir up shit everywhere he goes. No wonder he gets ignored.

Can you blame him 6:18 ? Most of the remains from those trays looked like they were never touched, The homeless shelter would have a field day
