As you know I did an
icecreme contest in Brea Calif..It was a charity event for make a wish
foundation with first prize being $500..As stated if I won the money would go to
charity,I lost. I still donated my own money to charity.I got a cautious
permission from MLE…………..Okay now the story starts, regestration for the
rib contest up in Reno openned.It took me 3 seconds to apply,only to ge an
e-mail from Sam Barklay telling me due to ovewelhming response I was being put
on the wait list…FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER…I called the ifoce office, and they
were to look into this matter..NOTHING.Last week I get an e-mail from Sam Barkly
saying a spot just opened up for me..As I told Sam if he didn’t mess me up my
airfare would have been $162 round trip as oppsed to 330 round trip now. I called
Sam back and asked him if anyone is driving up but would not tell me or give me a heads up.Can you beleive it..I
e-mailed Sam telling him to forget it, thanks but no thanks..The end of a great run with
great friends.What Sam did was intentinal but could have been fixed..Mike would
have taken care of this..
The Shea brothers are my friend (brothers ) and always will be.,They are not
resposable for Sams misdeeds……………….RON

Welcome to the world of the control freaks Ron. The Sheas will backstab you for not being loyal to their demands. This isn’t the first nor the last we will hear a story similar to this. Sam & Mike are just pawns placed to answer calls and messages but they are unable to make decisions without the ok from boss 1 and boss 2.

It’s complicated, as they say. First, Matt Stonie is the new can hang with Joey and that is pretty amazing. Michelle Lesco being up high and knocking down some highly ranked eaters is to be highlighted though each discipline is different and all of these weighed versus counted contests are always somewhat iffy for comparing abilities of eaters.
Ron and others who talk about control freaks etc. Yes, it IS complicated. Sometimes eaters feel entitled the things. Ron, perhaps the somewhat cautious permission related not to charity but to safety. If there is no EMT standing by, it is almost always a no. MLE does not want its eaters or anyone to get ill or expire because of a contest. It is for your own safety. All eaters who have had health problems would be well advised to consider the risks of competitive eating. And Ron, honestly, I do not think that it was personal against you. Of course you were disappointed to not be able to go for the inexpensive flight if you had been confirmed right away. But that is true for everyone who gets wait listed. They are juggling at MLE. It is just the way things work in life. Another reason to not tell eaters who else is driving where is actually a good policy on their part. Unless the list of eaters is made public in advance, they shouldn’t tell. It is up to eaters themselves to form a group, friendship, make connections and inform each other, send private messages on Facebook or via e-mail. Of course you will not want to be friends with some for various reasons but that is also the way the world works. Come on, be disappointed but honestly, I think you are not thinking this through completely. MLE did not ask you to leave. This is your take on things and your choice. I do hope and wish you well going independent. Perhaps in the long run you will find that more satisfying. Go out on a good note, not a complaining one. People will respect you more. Just my opinion.

Joey is putting even more space between him and Pat, while Matt appears to be the second best eater in MLE.
The only person who could consistently challenge Joey is Koby; I’d still have to give Joey an ever-so-slight edge.
On the women’s side, it’s not so close; though, there are more talented CE women than ever before.

The Shredder is nothing but a ingrate. All the things the Sheas did for him like inviting him to local media events when he hardly ever competes is just one example. People like Seiken never get invited to anything and he remains loyal to this day

Anonymous 448. This contest had nothing to do with competition..It was for Make a Wish Foundation. Sure I lost . So what ..It was for charity. My personel charity. I have never in the past done any eating event that would conflict with any MLE event.I am and will always be MLE. the Sheas will always be one of my closest friends, and like brothers to me..Yes I am angry the way this went down. I do two contests a year, and have never been on a waitlist. Maybe this was a mistake, I would like to think so..

It was going to be a great party, what happened is history. A mistake that could have been fixed, should have been fixed..I never got a call back just a so sorry, maybe next year. How many years have I competed in this contest, that didn’t matter. I had people e-mailing me to see if I was okay. Well, I could make up a name for myself but it would not matter. Ron, you have told us the whole story from your point of view. Not going into details here, while I love inside stories, unfortunately, much like others have done, you are disloyal to MLE by airing this publicly. You have no idea who reads this and no idea who is behind eatfeats. Once again, your reputation in my mind is greatly diminished, unfortunately.
You are hanging out to dry an employee of MLE in “public” and someone wrote he would never do that to you. MLE is a professional organization. People, all people, should be “professional” about their dissatisfaction. You can, in my mind, make this right. Go and rest and think for as long as you need to. Then make a public apology here and get things straight with MLE for your own sake. Otherwise, you have basically undone your years of association with them and your reputation as an eater.
Competitive eating is likely a rather small world. Most eaters do not get lots of national publicity, much less international. So while some point fingers at special people in MLE, those who get things other wish they could, loyalty counts, real loyalty, and it should count. I bet those eaters have had their beefs (pun intended) with MLE, lots of them. One part of their loyalty is not airing their disagreements or disappointments publicly. Take it up with MLE, and I am sure that they do. You may not get what you want, but you have to ask the right person.
Good Luck Ron and hope you will take what I have written not as criticism but as a good idea for you. You will have lots of company in the complainers department but in the end, complaining on here does nothing to change anything between MLE and an eater except negative things. NO, I AM NOT AN MLE PERSON. THEY SURELY DO NOT HAVE TIME TO READ “STUFF” HERE. THINK ABOUT IT.

I am anonymous 7:17 and honestly Ron, your stature has increased enormously in my eyes and I am sure the eyes of everyone who reads here. It takes a very very big person to quickly state what you have, and I am certain that everyone at MLE including Sam will appreciate what you have written and respect you greatly. You are a good role model, and this is a good example for others to follow. Thanks again so much for your gracious reply. How about trying one more contest and set things up in advance and have a retirement event that MLE can know about in advance? Just a suggestion.
