At least this contest has qualifiers unlike Crap Dogs. Why they would let Kobayashi and his manager sink her teeth into the West Coast Hot Dog Eating Championship after that debacle in Brooklyn is beyond me. Let’s face it people, Crap Dogs was a complete disaster. Bad counting, horrible emcees, disorganized, little coverage except for the fact that Kobi couldn’t keep up with Chestnut even when Kobi had caseless dogs and a bucket of water, and a complete dis fest to the “other” independents that Kobi assigned to kiss his butt. I mean putting Crap Dogs in Brooklyn was almost a scripted scenario of an eater in a nose dive and can’t pull out. All it showed was how far Kobi has fallen on the same day, in the same town as Nathan’s. If Crap Dogs is back next year, it’s just a testament to how utterly out of touch with reality “Team Kobi” kool aid drinkers are. I’d would, however, love to see what independent eater is desperate enough to be put to that embarrassment again — “enough with these guys let’s bring out the real eater” — really? After that illustrious introduction, “Furious” Pete had to be really furious. No wonder Pete didn’t eat to his capability, I wouldn’t blame him for not giving it his all after that treatment.

    Walter,

you make some good points, however the disrespect to the other eaters has more to do with the ignorance of the emcee and nothing to do with Kobi. It’s true the Inaugural Crif Dog classic was a complete disaster when it came to the orginization aspect, but with anything in life you hopefully learn from your mistakes. If it comes back next year, hopefully they’ll hire some professional entertainment company to do the emcee’ing and hire some Competent juding (or at the very least us people with common sense… how hard is it to put 5 HDB’s on one plate then count plates after)…

If Crif’s is going to succeed, they will definatly need to make some changes.

I noticed photos of Pete partying with the MLEs afterward. That’s cool. I know it wouldn’t be worth his while, but it would be cool to see Pete go MLE, at least in Pouteen or what ever the crazy Canucks call that fries and curds stuff. He’d always be the top Canadian eater, although Meridith is improving. And, I know Nathan’s wants to make their footprint bigger in Canada.

Pete was rejected to do poutine last year. MLE doesn’t want him, which is a bad move if you ask me.

Did you notice at Nathan’s how they had a judge standing next to Sonya and Joey the whole time. Lesson for other leagues and contests like the West Coasters, that’s what you do at an organized event that has the potential to have a record breaker. Joey and and Sonya are some cool cats with a judge verifying and two additional counters breathing down your necks. Now, no one can question the numbers. They should of had a judge looking at Juliet, but they recovered nicely in the after count, besides no one was really challenging Juliet’s number two spot. Oh, and one more lesson for Crap Dogs, don’t hold it in Brooklyn or at least not on the July 4th. West Coast gets it. Choose another date and/or venue, all Crap Dogs showed is this the big league (Nathan’s/MLE) and this is the minor league (Crap Dogs/Kobayashi). And, that’s how reporters saw it. I guess Kobi’s ego can’t take an event being held without any mention of him. Too bad his manager doesn’t have the wit to know that if you have a minor league eating contest, you don’t hold it on the same day as the recognized super bowl of competitive eating. Quiting MLE, storming the Nathan’s stage, Crap Dogs, never hire your girlfriend to manage your career. Anyone else would have been fired for incompetence.

Walter that is something I didn’t focus on but you’re right. What was up with that? Why weren’t other eaters looked at the same way as Joey and Sonya?
