According to the official contest roster, five female qualifier winners are not competing in Coney Island today: Miki Sudo, Molly Schuyler, Dee Martin, Christina Ginn and Terri Reeves.
The Rake & Herald has an interview with Miki Sudo, the top female performer on the 2013 qualifier circuit (40 hot dogs) conducted before she withdrew from the finals. In another Rake & Herald article, Rich Shea declined to provide any new information about the withdrawal (but he does say that Miki Sudo will compete in the Hooters wing finals later this month)

The fix was in for Sonya.
How do the other women who placed second in qualifying rounds feel when the one who beat them failed to show at the finals. I waould be upset feeling that should be me up there if the one who beat me had no intention to compete.
Did you see all the debris around Sonya AND Juliet. One would need a sifter to count the number of HDB’s that became debris on the table, the floor and in the cups. CE is becoming more and more who can CHEAT the best.

10:13 assumes that Sonya reads Seiken’s Bits and Pieces. Where is all this accusation of Sonya filling her cups coming from? Bob Shoudt and Seiken only? I never saw any of that before in ten years or so following Sonya since she began. I have seen Juliet not playing by the rules, beginning early and finishing late as the person refers to above. Congratulations to Sonya for a very gutty performance. I must say that I was most impressed with Juliet. At the end, I don’t think she had room for more than one more dog and bun, though TBW also looked spent, unlike how she usually looks fairly fresh immediately afterwards. Juliet gave it all she had. Wow! Sonya was fortunate to win, and anyone with less determination and grit would not have.

I read BBs Bits and Pieces and I was pleasantly surprised by his apology to Sonya, though I don’t think he really did anything that was bad enough to merit an apology, at least not to TBW, even if he could have used better taste.
Nevertheless, it takes a big man to admit in public that he might have been wrong doing something he did. That’s the side of BB that I applaud!

Didn’t Shoudt also decide that because he thought others were messy or cheating he would use his wife to signal him and do the same. I thought Sonya looked sick from the get go. She wasn’t herself. Juliet is as messy an eater as some used to be but became more careful after getting big deductions. In spite of the numbers yesterday, I believe Sonya was sick, Juliet was not, and of course Juliet may have won under those conditions. Sonya has been known to compete even when sick, she is a warrior bar none.

I agree 10;19. I don’t know what was up, but Sonya did not look like herself before, during, or after the event. She may well have been sick, though she would never mention it in public, regardless of how she finished, unless she was practically on her death bed..
Seeing some of the comments on this board, if she were to mention it, you could rest assured that she’d be accused of grasping at excuses for her “poor” performance.
Still, I cannot get over just how well Juliet did. It’s as if she has shifted into another competitive eating gear!
