Daaaaaammmn, if that’s accurate that’s insane. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that even though its the great Joey Chestnut that a mass gastro-evacuation is imminent.

I can confirm that the numbers aren’t made up. I really did come last. Yes, they were half-pound boxes. The first two went down really well but then from that point on I kept wanting to puke. No disrespect to the food, though. It was ace. Fair play to everyone who took part, emceed (Diamond Dave) and organised things. My feeder, Natalie, was a star, which is why I didn’t want to reverse on her. Joey Chestnut is a legend!

R/H, The numbers are “made up” if they were 1/2 pound boxes, the winner ate 24 boxes, and they’re calling it 24 pounds. The results should be cut in half. (Joey-12lbs, etc)

The containers were about a 1/2 pound, a few were 8.3oz and some were 7.6, overall they averaged to 1/2 lb. I was volunteering at the event today.

Anon 659 Joey ate 24lbs, 48 boxes. The #s posted ARE pounds. I had 10.5 boxes, 5.25lbs. Awesome sponsor…Ryan rocks :). Everyone’s boxes were checked for leftover debris. Another fun-filled road trip too 🙂

If these results are accurate, that means every eater who competed last year (with the exception of LMM) doubled their 2012 amount, or came close:

Chestnut: 9.5 pounds (in 2012) to 24 pounds (in 2013)
    Shoudt: 8.5 to 16.75
    Yasir 5.5 to 12
    Boxberger 5.665 to 9
    Reeves 5.5 to 8.5
    Ben Do 5.5 to 7.5
    Wild Bill 2.875 to 6.75

    Some might say it’s unbelievable.

24 pounds?! Wow! I’ve probably asked this before — or maybe OJ posted a handy chart in the past — but is that an all time record for most weight eaten in a single competition? I know the 20 pound mark has been surpassed in the past. Bertoletti grits? BOB did it recently didn’t he?

I don’t want to add any more fuel to numbers controversy but the accomplishment of eating >12lbs of any food in 10min is pretty note worthy and hard to do. More suspect is the sudden jump in quantities for this year. Previously 13lbs was the record and Joey’s (no slouch) best was just under 10lbs. Now we suddenly have the top 3 destroying the record, 4th almost beating it, and 5th almost beating Joey’s best. Just pointing out that’s all a little suspicious.

Sorry to the anonymous posters, who weren’t there, but Joey, Stonie and Bob put on a show. The numbers were legitimate. Smoke’s owner checked every single box for debris, dumped the debris onto a scale and weighed the debris, which was deducted from the total. They are the most legit contest totals I’ve ever seen.

  25. EEE said

The numbers are wrong… You don’t go from 12lbs to 24lbs in a year. There is no way your putting 24lbs in your stomach let alone in that amount of time. It looks like the IFOCE is starting to crave a little attention. Chestnut, Stonie and Shoudt are great eaters, no doubt. Anyone who has been around eating knows this. The problem is all these eaters go out there and put on a show just to make money for there OWNERS whether it be IFOCE or ALL PRO. They mc the contests, make more money than the eaters and get to go home feeling fine. Look at the Bartolini’s in Chicago. They’re not paying anyone but the eaters and their contest is bigger now than it ever was. I’m not trying to bash any organization but if you’re going to beat up your body and possibly take years off your life you might as well make money for yourself not anyone else….

Mike you are right the owner does weigh out the boxes with the debries after the contest. However not all the gravy is eaten and over 48 boxes the 1 ounce of grarvy per box does add up. But chestnut still past at least 20Lbs of food (potatoes and cheese) which is still impressive.

I wouldn’t call it a screw up in any way. From what I hear it was a great turnout and great time. The placings and results are accurate and that’s all that matters really. They could have measured it in boxes or lbs and you would have had the same results. The only thing the lbs eaten represents is bragging rights and who really cares. I’m sure the only things that Joey, Matt, and Bob are concerned with is that they got 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. I think we need to lighten up a little with the whole “record” issue and lbs reported.

nobody cares who you lose respect for when you do not even post your own name. You just show that you are a sad loser.

It was good when kobi and pat were there. Kinda slipped into the minor leagues a little bit especially now with fabricating eating totals.

I ate in the pro contest in 2011 (I’m very much an amateur and that was my first & only contest).

In 2011 I was 100% sure that the boxes they were giving us were more than 1 lb – I suspect that it was without gravy that they were weighed, and then the gravy slathered on.

They could have gone to measuring with gravy this year. There is NO WAY that everyone doubles their totals like that (the guy I tied with then ate double this year?). I know when I did it the poutine was cold and that made it a lot more difficult, but I can certainly understand the challenges they face getting it all ready.

I suspect there’s some changes in the methods used to measure – but if you ever get the answer to that is suspect, imo.

Anyway, I highly encourage everyone to go try Smokes not in a comp, because it’s fucking delicious.

Lol just watched the video, Joey probably dropped more food from his mouth and fist during the contest than he did from his rectum the morning after. Matt Stonie is the real winner.

If Joey, matt, and bob will not acknowledge these totals are a mistake or flat out fabricated then they will be in the same camp and as the well known chump cheater clc. Opportunistic cowards just like clc as long as it advances ME and I benefit the hell with the truth. Hope one of them has a ounce of integrity and admits their totals are bull crap.

Chestnut and Kobi never faced Seiken one on one at the table. I think Seiken would wax the both of them if it was just the three of them competing

Joey, really big of you. I lodge a valid complaint about truth and integrity, and you respond by calling me a loser. You should you be a bigger man. You know, you’re not Peter Pan. You’re a 30 year old who looks like he’s 40 and acts like he’s 2. OJ, publish this and my last comment. Joey’s comment about me was far worse and far less justified.

Was there this much bitching when Molly almost doubled Jamie’s fried mushroom record in two minutes less? No. That’s ok, if something unbelievable happens in an APE contest.

According to BB.com back in June of this year , they held a pastrami eating contest at Katz Deli. Joey Chestnut was reported to have eaten 11lbs of pastrami when in actuality he ate 8.2 lbs . MLE reported the sandwiches in weight 7lbs when each half sandwich was 5.25 lbs . Here is a pic of weighed sandwich
